Checkpoint Mobile VPN disconnecting

Hi,

 

I use Checkpoint Mobile (E80.62) to connect to my work network.  I've been having a lot of issues with the VPN freezing (still connected but unable to access anything on work network) and occasionally disconnecting completely.  I am able to browse the web and stream music normally when this is happening, it just seems to be the VPN connection that is affected. This has been going on since I started home working in January. I have moved twice since then and transferred my connection both times and have had the same issues each time.  Tech support at my work have investigated and not found any problems, other people are connecting fine.  I was convinced it was an issue with their network until my last house move, when my plusnet installation was delayed and I had to connect over 4g using my phone.  This worked fine and didn't disconnect at all.  Back on plusnet fibre connection now and the disconnects have started again.  Is anyone able to advise?  I have a Plusnet hub one router, could changing that make a difference?  Extract from the checkpoint log file from this morning below.

Hi there.

I'm sorry to hear you're having problems connecting to your work's VPN and you're experiencing connection problems.

Our tests aren't showing any issues and your line appears to be stable:

 

Is your laptop or computer you're using connected to your router over WiFi or using an ethernet connection?

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

Its over WiFi. I'll try Ethernet and see if that makes a difference.

Hopefully a hard wired connection will help as @Gandalf suggested.

I'm still seeing disconnects in the log file but less frequently and it does seem more stable now.  So I'm cautiously optimistic so far.  Thanks for the suggestion.

Working over Ethernet and problematic over WiFi points to a local WiFi spectrum issue / congestion. Have you looked at changing WiFi channels?

That said such issues would also impact non-VPN activity ... unless the VPN software is highly intolerant of carrier interruptions ... as might occur when a WiFi infrastructure switches channels when seeking a better connection.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.
