Constant green light before broadband activation

Hello all,

I've just moved to a new flat and have taken Plusnet with me; it's due to be activated tomorrow.

I just tried to turn on my router and noticed there's a constant green light instead of orange. I was hoping to use it for LAN purposes (to connect speakers which need a local network) but it didn't work. I did a quick Google search and found old posts suggesting that a green light implied a faulty router.

My question: is this normal behaviour before activation, or do I need to order a new router?

Thanks

Which Hub are you using?

It's a Hub 2.

Re: Constant green light before broadband activation

Try rebooting the Hub - Press a paper clip or similar into the reset hole, hold for 25-30 seconds, or until the light turns green again, and then wait for five minutes or so.

Report back with the result.

Edit: If you are due to connect tomorrow, it won't be active anyway, so maybe hold off until then.

Re: Constant green light before broadband activation

See my EDIT - you have no connection to the internet, so it won't work, anyway.

Re: Constant green light before broadband activation

You would normally expect it to show flashing orange i.e seraching for a dsl signal.

@cdavies94 do you have anything connected to the hub ? if so try disconnecting everything , then resetting the hub without anything connected

Re: Constant green light before broadband activation

@MisterW Never thought of that - oops - but is it worth trying anything until the OP has an internet connection?

Yes, if it has just a green light with nothing connected, then it looks like its not starting up properly i.e faulty

Re: Constant green light before broadband activation

Yes, this was my fear..

What's the best way for me to replace it? Ask Plusnet for a new Hub or pick up a generic (TP-Link?) router from Curry's? I guess the former might take some time, and I need to be online ASAP

Re: Constant green light before broadband activation

@cdavies94 was this the working Hub from your previous property?

Are you using the correct power adapter for it?

Dan.

Re: Constant green light before broadband activation

Pity, with two more postal strikes this week buying a 3rd party device might be quickest. Just make sure its a combined modem/router supporting ADSL/VDSL connections

Re: Constant green light before broadband activation

@cdavies94

The green light is part of the standard start up sequence, it's a case of how long it stays green. Have you tried the factory reset as suggested by @jab1 earlier? Try holding the switch closed for about 30 seconds.
