DLM Reset

My connection drops regularly overnight, probably once a week. I live in an area that is notorious for faults and poor cabling but have had multiple engineers saying there's nothing they can do.

They also enabled interleaving on their most recent visit but doesn't seemed to have helped, only makes the speeds drop further.

My sync speed on the router has now dropped to 13mbps. Would appreciate a DLM reset please.

Thanks

Re: DLM Reset

Do your ongoing line faults often cause your sync speed to drop, or is this a one off reduced speed problem ?

I'm just wondering whether along with a DLM reset, you ask Plusnet to change the "stability profile" of your line to a more stable setting ?.  Rather than repeat what I've written about this, look at this post where I describe the various settings.

Re: DLM Reset

Yeah I've noticed the speed will continually drop over a period of time.

Re: DLM Reset

Hey @selector14,

I am sorry to hear that the engineer could not help on your most recent visit I have ran some tests on the line while they did not show any faults affecting the Openreach line I have done the DLM reset which takes up to 30 to complete

Re: DLM Reset

Hi @Marsh,

Thanks for the DLM reset,

Would you recommend a change of stability profile to standard so it's less aggressive on speed?
Or would my speed still drop regardless?

Thanks

Re: DLM Reset

Hi @selector14,

We can certainly try it for nothing, Ill place the order for it and we can monitor.

If you get an intermittent connection or drops on your BB then we will probably need to move it back over to stable but we will just have to see. Smiley

The order will complete tomorrow, so I would give it around 5 days to see if the speeds change and if drops occur.

Please let us know!

Lex

Re: DLM Reset

Hi @Marsh @LexLex2020

Just to keep you updated. Unfortunately I have had no change in speed and my sync speed is still capped to 13mbps.

Thanks

Re: DLM Reset

Hi @selector14

It seems that your stability profile is still set to stable and hasn't been reverted to standard, would you like me to revert this stability order back to standard for you so we can test the speeds?

Regards

Re: DLM Reset

Hi @Windings

With my current speeds the internet is noticeably slow.

I'd be happy to go with whatever you suggest would be best. If you think standard would help I'd be more than happy to try it.

Thanks

Re: DLM Reset

Hi @Windings @Marsh

Could you advise whether any change has been implemented yet as I have still had no change in speed.

Thanks

Re: DLM Reset

Hi @selector14, Just had a quick check on your account for you and can confirm the modify to standard order has definitely completed. The only other thing i can do is trigger another DLM reset. Its a longshot but maybe the SNR margins didn't change in line with the modify order.

Ultimately if the reset doesn't prove to be fruitful, I'm not sure what else we could do.

Re: DLM Reset

'@selector14   / @Windings - reboot Hub? might not work, but it is one thing I always try - any changes on anything that don't take sometimes need an unofficial 'kick'.😀

Re: DLM Reset

I think it's worth noting that changing the stability profile would just alter the parameters which DLM uses when making adjustments, so these type of changes aren't instant. I'd actually advise against rebooting the hub and keeping the connection as stable as possible to try to 'prove' to DLM that the connection can tolerate a higher speed. Even though another DLM reset will induce a drop, it may actually be beneficial as it will trigger a re-train and encourage it to make an adjustment quicker.

Having said that, I've tested the line and I can see the sync speed has now increased to ~37mbps, although it's also flagged a number of errored seconds, which could affect throughput, so may need pursuing as a fault (this wasn't showing on a test done earlier today, so I suspect it's likely the higher sync speed has triggered the errors).

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.
