Default Gateway Address

Help needed, I am trying to connect an old BT Youview Set Top Box to a new plusnet hub one router.  I have entered the IP address 192.168.1.254. Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 but do not know what I should be entering for the Default Gateway address and the Primary DNS

thanks

David

Re: Default Gateway Address

Hi there.

I'd imagine the setup should be plug and play, but if you need to enter settings the default gateway is the router address which is 192.168.1.254 and our primary DNS server is 212.159.13.49.

Hope this helps.

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

Re: Default Gateway Address

That's not going to work.
My recommendation would be that you configure the Youview box to automatically retrieve these details using DHCP.
If you're adament on specifying them yourself though then you'll need...
IP - 192.168.1.X (where X is a number between 1 and 253, that hasn't been assigned to any other device on your network).
Subnet - 255.255.255.0
Gateway - 192.168.1.254
DNS1 - 212.159.6.10
DNS2 - 8.8.8.8
The above assumes you're happy to use Google's DNS as your secondary. If not, use 212.159.6.9 instead.
