Thanks everyone for the help. It's a bit disappointing that I will need to sigh up for a new contract to get the router replaced, especially as it's not clear that the issues will be resolved with it. I'm left wondering if I should perhaps look at another provider, rather than locking myself in for another year or two.
Happy to provide full logs if that is possible / will help.
Thanks,
Stuart

Honestly I don't think there's any further investigation we can do bar replacing the router through a new contract, because your speeds are where we'd expect for how your line's currently performing.
Appreciate they've dropped over time though and this could be due to cross-talk which is interference from other connections in the cabinet. If that's the case, it's not something an engineer can fix as it'd involve major work to expand the cabinet, build a new one or provide full fibre infrastructure in the area.
Looking at Openreach's website Here I can see they're starting to roll out full fibre in your area, so this could potentially be soon. For more detail or a timescale, you could try asking them Here.
Do you know what speeds your neighbours currently get? Is it more or less the same as you or significantly more?

Thanks. I've PM'd you with my number as requested. I guess crosstalk / EMI of some sort is maybe the explanation.
I'll ask about FTTP availability as well - thanks. FTTP would be the dream!

@sdhuk If you don't want to recontract why not get a used router from an auction site, the BT HH6 works well with Plusnet and is not expensive. There are instructions on setting one up in the router forum board.
Like @jab1 I am not convinced it is a router problem, I don't how the Openreach engineer decided that was the problem. So if there actually is a line fault don't expect moving to another provider to fix it, because it won't.

@sdhuk, sounds good. I've PM'd you back and passed your details on for someone to call you as soon as possible.

Thank you. I might do that. I guess I'm a little concerned that if the HH6 doesn't fix things, it might be a challenge to get PlusNet to act, as I haven't used a new, Plusnet router/modem.

The only real further investigation we can do bar a new router is sending an Openreach engineer, but not something we'd normally do as your speeds are within expectations. Knowing what speeds your neighbours get may help though.

@sdhuk Plusnet do not force you to use their own Modem/Routers, I have never used an ISP supplied router as I need more sophisticated configuration than is usually available on budget devices. I have never had any problem getting Plusnet to act on the few times I have needed to report faults, such as actual physical line faults, exchange problems, and Openreach stupidity.🙄

Not sure why I haven't mentioned this before, as you have a Hub One it is possible to monitor the line condition 24/7, this will require a windows pc which you are happy to leave powered on and logged on, the screen can be locked.
The monitor program is called routerstats
Take a read, not difficult to use.

@Gandalf Thanks, I'll have a chat with them.
@Dan_the_Van I've downloaded it and have it running in a VM right now (I'm on MacOS)
@RealAleMadrid Thanks for those reassurances. I've renewed at a reasonable rate, and they're sending out a new modem.

New router received today and set up now. Syncing at the same speed and the same noise margin of around 6dB up and down. Is DLM likely to kick in now that I have the new router to see if a higher sync speed / noise margin can be achieved?
Thanks again.

I would expect the DLM to adjust the speed provided there is a period of stability in the connection for a few days.
