Re: HUAWEI HG 612 Modem. How to use Lan2 to feed local PC

Can I use LAN1 for the router (hub 4 in my case) and LAN2 for a another router (which I can use for guests etc...)  Can LAN 2 give out internet?

I think not. The router will not give you totally independent fibre broadband access. Cry

Even if you put the modem in routing mode?
Will that give internet out both LAN 1 and LAN 2?

The HG612 in routing mode will act exactly like a two ethernet port router. So yes it will give internet on both LAN 1 and LAN 2.

Put it in routing mode. Does this automatically make LAN 2 internet accesible?

Re: HUAWEI HG 612 Modem. How to use Lan2 to feed local PC

THe steps provided has broken my hub 4  Angry  By breaking the WAN/INFINITY port.
Not blaming you NPR its just your steps may have put too much pressure on my hub.  Awaiting a new hub of eBay, but won't be doing these steps anymore and prob not bother with the extra lan port.
So cautious to anyone planning to do this.

Re: HUAWEI HG 612 Modem. How to use Lan2 to feed local PC

Routing mode is intended to connect to a PC ethernet port it will not work connected to a routers EWAN port.
If you need more ethernet ports and wireless then connect the HG612 to a router's ethernet port with DHCP disabled -- don't think the hub 4 is configurable enough to disable DHCP.
I very much doubt this has broken your hub 4's EWan port, but it's kind of you not to blame me.  Undecided

Re: HUAWEI HG 612 Modem. How to use Lan2 to feed local PC

After many resets and restarting the hub 4 and resetting the openreach modem it has now come back to life.
I think I will try and do this on my spare openreach modem, and netgear WNR1000 supplied by PN in March 2012.

Looking back. The hub does have an option to disable DHCP server, is this the correct option?
