Hilariously dismal 'upgrade' offer

Has anyone else been offered a "Great all round package" for Fibre Broadband with an estimated download speed in single figures?

Re: Hilariously dismal 'upgrade' offer

I still have over a year to go on my current FTTC broadband + phone contract, but last week I had an offer to re-contract for two years, keep the same broadband speed, but lose the telephone line.

The offer price was £1 more than I'm currently paying, (and still subject to the imminent increases).

🤔

Might just be me, but I get the feeling BT Consumer Division want to get rid of the 'Plusnet' name.There is no good reason why changing to a SoGEA product should give the abysmal figures quoted in @plot16 's 'offer' - in fact, without the noise from the phone side of the connection, it could potentially be higher.

Mr_Paul

It was not the cost but the eye-poppingly low download speed in single figures...

Re: Hilariously dismal 'upgrade' offer

That's exactly what I am referring to. What is your current product, and what speeds are you getting?

Re: Hilariously dismal 'upgrade' offer

@plot16 I think that's based on the observed speeds of your line, as in what you're currently getting.

I can see we're investigating a fault, so once your service is back to normal, check the upgrade offer again.

Re: Hilariously dismal 'upgrade' offer

@plot16 So, I am now totally confused. As I said, getting rid of the phone component could possibly increase - not reduce your speed and also, although I no longer look at the prices on PN 'offers', you appear to be paying over the odds.

I don't quite see that - if @plot16 is currently getting 30+ with a fault, 6 is, to put it mildly ridiculous. I am aware that the PN brand is the 'no-frills' arm of BT Consumer, but to quote someone that range of speeds is an insult to most peoples intelligence.

This not the first instance of silly re-contract figures, either.

@plot16

"It was not the cost but the eye-poppingly low download speed in single figures..."

I mentioned it because it indicates how messed up Plusnet "offers" are at the moment. The title of your thread is "Hilariously dismal 'upgrade' offer" after all!

@jab1

"As I said, getting rid of the phone component could possibly increase - not reduce your speed"

Apparently, it can increase the price!

Re: Hilariously dismal 'upgrade' offer

Sync speed as of yesterday was ~8.7mbps, either @plot16 is quoting his usual speed or maybe the system hasn't quite updated to reflect the new speed. Smiley

The system apparently permits the creation of a (manifestly rubbish) quote in single fingers without being flagged.

One reason I moved supplier three years ago - I saw what was happening, and decided I wasn't prepared to play silly games. As a point of interest, I am moving ( with the same supplier) from 40/10 FTTC to 100 FTTP for £28.00 for 18 months - with no mid-term increase and a VoIP phone service, although that is for incoming calls only, as it would either be another £6.00/month, but with 1,000 minutes call allowance.

Would you be willing to name your supplier?
