In another browser tab, login into the Plusnet user portal BEFORE clicking the fault & ticket links

You could just go ahead with the engineer visit, claim that the fault is intermittent but seems to be working at the moment, then ask whether it's worth fitting a new master socket and faceplate filter, and could they disconnect any internal phone extension wiring that will soon become redundant in the next few months due to the imminent PSTN switch off.
You shouldn't get charged for the visit or for refreshing the master socket etc, and you'll be sure that your wires are now perfectly terminated and you'll have a nice new socket and filter.
