Re: Hub has detected a problem with my internet connection

Hi KrazyyOne,

Do you have another socket similar to this one:

Socket.jpg

This is the one I have to use (it's in a bedroom).  Others will work with a telephone only (even the one that's in my lounge that looks like an older-style master socket).

And this is where I myself come a little unstuck.  At my old home, I could connect my ADSL router to any of the sockets using a filter.  When I moved and opted to utilise fibre that was already installed (FTTC), my router only works when I connect to the above.

Out of interest, did you order the older-style Broadband (ADSL) or one of the Fibre deals (VDSL)?

Jonty.

@jontysoper That looks like the old-style filtered main socket to me.

I do have one like that. It's in a built in wardrobe of all places with no power supply nearby . We tried that but no luck. We ordered fibre to cabinet. Going to go get a phone later.

Spoke to someone on phone earlier and they said our router wasn't syncing

Going out on a limb here, as it's leaving my comfort zone, but I'm going to suggest that double socket doesn't work - can you see where the cables from the one in the cupboard go?

Really need that phone to check.

Nothing is connected to the one in the cupboard.

Re: Hub has detected a problem with my internet connection

That does not make sense - it is a Master Socket if it is like the one in the picture. There must be some wiring to it, even if it only goes to that 'double socket'.

Do you mean for me to unscrew the front of the socket?

Not at this stage. Can you see any cables going into/coming out of the cupboard socket?

For amusement only!

My Father used to work for what was then called the GPO.  He knew a socket was live if - whilst wiring up - someone dialled the line/number.  You'd get a little jolt!  Getting a phone will be a more pleasant way to test of course Wink

@KrazyyOne

What you need to do is undo the two screws and pull off the front filter section. of this master socket. Be careful as there may be extension wires fixed to the front section. In behind in the fixed part you will see the test socket (the filter part plugs into it), Plug you filter (use the new one that came with your hub in case the other is faulty) in to the test socket and see if that works. If so we have a starting point for further advice.

No wires at all? If so, whoever was in there before you has totally messed up the wiring. I'm away for a couple of hours, but if no-one else pops in, I'll see what else I  can come up with -if anything.

I'm off out to get a corded phone shortly but will look at taking of faceplate later on.
