Re: IP Profile speed drop

I have now run the app since lunch time yesterday. I attach two captures. To me they look OK. Is there anything I should be looking for?

I am assured the DLM has been reset for me, but the download speed is still lower than it has been.

Re: IP Profile speed drop

The DS SNRM is elevated, so that accounts for the slower speed.

The unanswered question is why?

DLM reset has not worked for you?

Some other issue (not presently shown on the graphs) caused the DLM to take action to stabilise the line.

The point of monitoring is to capture evidence to inspect after there has been a transient event on the line.  The fact that it looks like all is fine most of the time does not mean that you are wasting your time monitoring.  You cannot gather evidence after the event!

Re: IP Profile speed drop

Thank again for the help.

I will keep using the app over the next few days. Is it only that graph within the app that will help identify any issues that might affect the speed?

Re: IP Profile speed drop

You are looking for events which might give rise to instability, thereby causing the DLM to slug the line.  Therefore, the SNRM is the only one of interest.  At the time of a resync, the actual speed graph might be informative, especially is there is a marked change in SNRM from before the drop.

Re: IP Profile speed drop

I have now run the app overnight again. The graphs seem to show a max download speed of 50 mbs, but the actual speed is 38mbs.

The spikes on the noise graph seem to around the same time that the CH/hot water switches off at night and on again in the morning. Could this affect the DLM? The system is a Hive type with the Hive Hub plugged into the router. Could this spike be caused by RF or through the mains?

Any advice appreciated

Re: IP Profile speed drop

Only the noise graphs are of any real interest and there’s nothing of interest here.

Those spikes are tiny and not enough to disturb the DLM. So the question remains - why is the DLM running the DS at over 10dB?

As for the Mac speed, again not entirely relevant as that is a theoretical speed in perfect conditions - that is a SNRM of 6dB.

@Gandalf - any suggestions please?

Re: IP Profile speed drop

Thank you. Well where do I go from here?

I am not sure how to argue that something is wrong. I am paying for Fibre Extra, and was told to expect about 50mbs, which is what I was getting until a few weeks ago.

Re: IP Profile speed drop

Whilst waiting for the Wizard, Plusnet are going to send me a Hub 2 to see if that helps. Not sure if it will, but worth a go. Today my download speed dropped to 34Mbps, which is below the guaranteed minimum.

Re: IP Profile speed drop

Hi there,

I'm really sorry for the delay firstly. From what I can see your download speed's still restricted by DLM to 40mbps and line tests aren't showing the cause for this. I've manually done a DLM reset which should lift the cap within an hour.

If that doesn't work then I've as well added to the tracker again the usual way to ask Openreach to sort it their side.

Also we haven't actually sent you a Hub Two yet, even though I can see someone e-mailed/text you last week. I've pushed the order for the new router through and it should be in the post either tonight or tomorrow night, all being well.

Let me know how it goes.

Re: IP Profile speed drop

The DLM reset has been completed and retesting your line is showing your router's now getting 51.8mbps.

How are things from your side now?

Re: IP Profile speed drop

Hi Anoush,

Thank you for doing this for me. I have today received confirmation that the Hub2 has been ordered.

Just checked the Openreach speed checker, showing a download speed of 48.87Mbps, so that is good. Hope it lasts?

So to recap, no faults are showing but the download SNR is higher than expected, and no known reason for the DLM to drop the speed?

.
