I wonder if anyone can help me diagnose an issue which I've been plagued with since November last year. I'm having a problem with WAN disconnects. It started off being once or twice a day, with the router logs showing; WAN Connection: WAN(0) link down. This would rectify itself within a minute, but gradually came to a height in December where it would disconnect several times an hour, resulting in contacting Plusnet who said there was a line fault present and sent an Engineer. Engineer visited Jan 4th and couldn't find any faults, but could clearly see the history of disconnects on his system. Strangely, the frequency of disconnects reduced after his visit, down to a couple of times a day, then subsidising altogether by the beginning of February. Short lived respite though, as they are back and seem to happen roughly at the same time periods every day: 04:30 and 20:30. Speeds seem to be all over the place since the start of this problem. I usually get around 70Mbps, but since the problems stared I'm lucky to see 45Mbps.
Quiet Line test: pass. Silent.
Master socket is the Filtered type.
Modem router: DSL-AX82U Attached to directly to master socket or extension, makes no difference to the disconnects.

Thanks @Dan_the_Van. I'll ring them again and see. I've already done this dance with reporting the issue, last engineer visit was less than 6 weeks ago could not find a problem after several hours of testing. I know this can't go on like this. My connection was always rock solid; It's only been doing this since November.

Have you checked the landline phone for noise, it could be noise causing the issue, dial 17070 option 2, the line should be silent.
If you have a Master Socket 5c it is worth checking the faceplate is fully seated and if possible connect the modem to the test socket behind the face plate for a while to see of that the cause

Quite line test is silent and have already had the router plugged into the Master socket ( and test port) which made no difference to the dropouts. Bit of a head scratcher.

The evidence suggests a line issue which needs investigating further, you should not have than many failures.

@Dan_the_Van That's what I'm leaning towards. That or the Modem-Router is taking a bath; but then it's less than 6 months old and the logs suggest a line drop?
Update: Just got of the blower and technical have said there's still a fault showing on the line, despite the engineer not being able to find anything on their last visit. So another engineer has been booked. Fingers crossed. I'll post an update after the visit.

Another 12 disconnects during the night. Has been stable since 7:45am. Something I failed to mention in my original post is that since this problem started, speeds fluctuate a lot. I used to see around 70+Mbs, but it's been oscillating between 45 to 60Mbps

Well, as I feared would happen, the visiting Engineer found nothing after two hours of fault finding. I did raise this as a one of my concerns to Plusnet seeing an Engineer was here six weeks ago, but they said they had requested a higher level Engineer to visit. So here we are. Line test came up clean and RT test showed normal. Interestingly one of the tests to the exchange threw up 11000 connection faults? The most he's seen, apparently. I have no idea what this means. But he couldn't get it to repeat.
So to roll back. The first Engineer in January noted there was a bridge tap on the line ( a data extension to another room fitted by BT a long while ago) but tested this to be fine and made a note of it as it does show up when tested by plusnet/openreach. However, to preempt this being an issue I moved the router to the master socket when the problems started, where it has remained since. Todays visiting Engineer seems to think the bridge tap/extension could still be an issue, even though the router is not connected to it, so has eliminated this by disconnecting it and has jerry rigged the connection behind the faceplate so everything runs through a filter dongle, eliminating the filtered faceplate, to test it for a week and see if the issue persists. His thinking is that the exchange equipment is sensitive to bridge taps and cuts them off. So now none of my PC's are hardwired to the internet anymore, which is little frustrating as none of them are wifi enabled, so I have to run long Cat 5 cables to my hallway to get them online. But if it helps find the issue then I don't mind the house looking like I'm stealing electric from the neighbours.

If your router is plugged into the 'filter dongle' it is running exactly the same way as it was when connected to the filtered faceplate - I assume the engineer has plugged it into the test socket?

It will 'resolve' it, in that when plugged into the test socket, all other extensions are effectively dead, but a more elegant, and the proper way, is to get rid of the bridge tap.

The fact that you now need to run a CAT 5 cable to the hallway suggests to me that you previously had the hub hung on to an extension lead between your master socket and hall, with extension leads being fed off the master socket. This would introduce the reported bridge tap with potential performance problems. Regardless of whether this lash up fixes your fault, if I am correct then I would recommend that a filtered faceplate is fitted at the master socket location, site the hub close to this and permanently install a CAT 5e (not CAT 5) cable to the hall. If you need multple Ethernet outlets in the Hall then an Ethernet switch is inexpensive.

The extension cable needs to be disconnected to remove a bridge tap, not using the extension will not eliminate the bridge tap or any interference being caused.
It should not be necessary to jerry rig the wiring to allow a ADSL dongle filter to work in a master socket, it just plugs into the test behind the faceplate.
Which version of master socket do you have, is this where the copper telephone line comes into your property?
It should be noted the ADSL filter is to filter out the DSL signal from the phone and it circuit is bypassed for DSL signals connection to the modem. It provides the required RJ11 connection for the modems DSL cable plug.
