Internet Dropping Out Regularly

Been a PN customer for years.  No real problems over that time .... until Saturday.

Internet dropped out a few times then went off.  Looked at router and it was cycling through the start up sequence over and over.  Thought it might have failed so I put my spare on and it was doing the same.  Put original back on and eventually it settled and connected but the router had reset itself to the default SSID and deleted all my custom device names  Router log showing this

Yesterday had a few dropouts and today with the following reasons for disconnecting

14:47:26, 15 Apr. (29140.970000) PPPoE is down after 132 minutes uptime [Disconnected]
14:47:24, 15 Apr. (29138.720000) PPP LCP Send Termination Request [PPPoE PADT received]

17:26:07, 15 Apr. (38661.260000) PPPoE is down after 158 minutes uptime [Disconnected]
17:26:04, 15 Apr.

(38658.360000) PPP LCP Send Termination Request [Peer not responding]

Today that has happened at 02.46, 03.07, 03.48, 06.19, 06.44, 12.34, 14.48, and 17.26

What could be causing this ?

Re: Internet Dropping Out Regularly

Is your 'spare' also a Hub1, and which is connected now?

Re: Internet Dropping Out Regularly

Yes and original now back on as the spare just continued the rebooting cycle.

Re: Internet Dropping Out Regularly

The initial log you provided suggests the Hub is failing, the second set suggests a possible network issue, but you really need someone with more experience of PN Hubs than what I have.

Suggest you follow this:

First thing to check: Is your phoneline clear? Dial 17070 (preferably from a corded phone), select option 2. Once your phone number is confirmed, there should be silence on the line except for the regular 'Quiet Line Test' message - any other noise, report a PHONE problem via: https://www.plus.net/help/report-a-problem/phone/

If the phone test passes, report a broadband problem via: https://www.plus.net/help/report-a-problem/broadband/

Let us know the result - if the tests come back as clear but you still have a problem, we need to investigate further.

The above assumes you still have 'normal' landline connection - if you have a SOGEA (internet only) one, just use the second link to report a network issue.

Re: Internet Dropping Out Regularly

Quiet line test OK.

I am getting hundreds of blocked in packets, could that have any bearing on the problems ?

Re: Internet Dropping Out Regularly

No - those reports are just notifications that the Hub is doing its job of blocking unsolicited connection attempts.

See what result you get from the auto-bot after submitting the possible line fault issue.

Re: Internet Dropping Out Regularly

Watchdog reset usually indicates a router hardware fault. @molerat did you change the PSU when you changed routers ?

Re: Internet Dropping Out Regularly

No I didn't 😔

Interestingly since I raised the fault it has not skipped a beat - coincidence ?

Also all those blocked in packets have dried up.

Re: Internet Dropping Out Regularly

If, as @MisterW says, it is a hardware fault, it can 'correct' itself for a period, but it will return - reporting the fault will not cure it.

The  fact that those probes have stopped just means that whatever was doing it has given up and gone elsewhere, having had no success.

Re: Internet Dropping Out Regularly

No I didn't

@molerat in that case , if it reoccurs , I'd try using the psu from the other router.
