Re: Internet speed is unstable & bottoming out.

Hi @thehiker8

Have you checked you're not getting any DSL disconnects?

Does the Hub Blue light change colour when you get the issues?

The Hub Status page will show the Network Uptime (DSL connection), it should almost match the System Uptime (how long the Hub has been switched on)

Is this a call on the associated landline or a VoIP call?

Re: Internet speed is unstable & bottoming out.

Hi Dan,

Yes the blue light stays on constantly.

Network uptime:0 Days 15 Hrs 34 Mins

System uptime:0 Days 15 Hrs 37 Mins

Is this confirming a brief signal drop?

Re: Internet speed is unstable & bottoming out.

Its a call within a remote desktop in AWS; avaya agent for desktop. The extra data transfer required for the call exacerbates the lag

Re: Internet speed is unstable & bottoming out.

@thehiker8   it sounds like you just don't have enough bandwidth to run that app.

What do you have available? Enter your phone number in the BTW DSL checker and post the results, obscuring your number:

@thehiker8

Is this confirming a brief signal drop?

The three minute difference would down to the time it takes for the DSL connection to establish and the broadband user to authenticate.

It does look like you have a bandwidth issue, if FTTC is not available to you have you investigated 4g broadband?

Re: Internet speed is unstable & bottoming out.

I've been working remotely since 2020 with these internet speeds. This latency spike issue has only started in the last few weeks.

Thanks for reply. What's confusing me is I worked the whole day on the 19th June with no issues. Speed was perfect & then with the exact same setup on the following day, the latency spike issue was back. I'm wondering if it's related to traffic demands within the building, am i being throttled, as i've troubleshooted practically every bit of hardware my end.

Fix

@thehiker8

Are you the only user of this broadband connection?

Being ADSL your upload speed is not likely to be above 1Mbps. Remote desktop apps can use a bit of bandwidth depending on the screen resolution used.

I would look at going to FTTC as it's available.

Yes i'm the only user. Only one device connected.

Ok. I've been onto Plusnet to get an upgrade but was told not possilbe. Will go back & request FTTC & see how it goes.

Re: Internet speed is unstable & bottoming out.

To conclude, it is most likely the current average speed is just not up to the task. Moved to a new role which co-incided with this latency spike, as it's more app & data intensive. Going for the better speed. Thanks for the troubleshooting help all.

Re: Internet speed is unstable & bottoming out.

@thehiker8  You have now confirmed the reason for your problem...... "Moved to a new role which co-incided with this latency spike, as it's more app & data intensive."

Upgrading to FTTC should sort it out.
