Off topic - a beer - I hope it is something "real" from a local brewery?  I am in the mood for something similar as well!

Re: LAN PORT DISCONNECTING

A recent Xbox should negotiate at 1Gbps when wired. If it isn't, then something is wrong.

Can we get some confirmation that there are no Powerline adapters in play here?

I have an XBox One X wired via two unmanaged switches and it is fine with a Hub Two in situ. A Series S is a newer console so shouldn't negotiate at anything less than 1Gbps.

I'd be inclined to replace the hub/cables, but given that's already been attempted, then something else must be afoot 🤔

PS. Neck Oil and Mini Eggs is a fine combo.

Re: LAN PORT DISCONNECTING

In addition to powerline adapters it might be worth confirming if there is any internal structural network cabling in the house or is the xbox connected directly with a single cable to the hub with no joints?

I've had a search for smart hub 2 and xbox connection issues. The posts are not very technical and possible add little value to this issue

Re: LAN PORT DISCONNECTING

Morning! No power line adapters at all. Plugged directly from hub to Xbox which are in the rooms next door to each other. The cable does go through the loft and down the next room but I have purchased another cable and ran it directly again across the landing and issue still arises. It’s an Xbox one S so not the newest version but the port has never had a problem previously at our old house it’s only been an issue since we have moved!

Re: LAN PORT DISCONNECTING

I have this exact same problem since changing broadband package with Plusnet and receiving the Hub Two router. It effects both Ethernet ports which are wired directly to two separate PC's via Cat5e cables. Everything worked fine with the old router. It's clearly a fault with the router or the firmware managing it. Technical log from this morning:

Re: LAN PORT DISCONNECTING

@Tench - there has to be something else at play because there are plenty of people successfully using wired connections with the latest firmware (myself included). Maybe something specific to your individual hub, or some sort of compatibility issue concerning the cables and/or adapters that are in use.

In a bid to try and establish some commonalities, do you know the make/model and driver versions of the network adapters installed on each of the two PC's?

Re: LAN PORT DISCONNECTING

The Ethernet controllers are Realtek 8111H, and Realtek 8111F. Both are running on fully updated Windows 10, Realtek's drivers are v10.38.1118.2019, and v9.1.410.2015 respectively. All Windows LAN settings are standard. Looking for commonalities is fine as long as you don't overlook the obvious, both these PC's had perfect Ethernet connectivity before the router replacement, and the fact that yours works without issue just indicates that this one is defective.

I've found a few threads on here from others who have this issue, all of which have fizzled out with no resolution, I'm assuming they either moved over to Wi-Fi or an alternative router. Given the short disconnection period It would not surprise me if there are more defective Hub 2's out there with the same issue but the problem is either being attributed to internet connectivity dropouts, or going completely unnoticed.

Re: LAN PORT DISCONNECTING

The Ethernet controllers are Realtek 8111H, and Realtek 8111F.

Both of those are Gigabit capable, as are the LAN ports on the Hub 2, yet the event log shows a connection negotiated only to 100Mbps.

What spec are the cables connecting those devices to the Hub ?

edit: reading through above posts I see they are cat5e.

CAT5e FTP as stated earlier, both rated to one Gig.

Re: LAN PORT DISCONNECTING

A quick google reveals at least one other instance of the RTL NIC not negotiating/staying on gigabit. https://www.tenforums.com/network-sharing/159852-realtek-ethernet-adapter-refusing-stay-gigabit.html

That was in 2020 , from your driver details I would guess they pre-date that. Are there any later drivers available ?

Re: LAN PORT DISCONNECTING

Not specifically for these motherboards, both are running the last revision from the manufacturer (MSI/Asus). Windows reports that the best drivers are already installed. Any generic drivers available will likely be the same ones as these are last to pass MS certification for these chipsets.

Interesting. I have reason to believe that the NIC on an Xbox Series S (which the OP is complaining about) is an 8111HM.

Looking for commonalities is fine as long as you don't overlook the obvious, both these PC's had perfect Ethernet connectivity before the router replacement...

I acknowledge that. Sometimes it takes two to tango though, and any hint at how to replicate the issue will aid trying to get to the bottom of the problem.

...and the fact that yours works without issue just indicates that this one is defective.

Not at all. The OP has a problem with a specific model of XBox. They do not have a problem with any other wired device, even when plugged into the same 'defective' port that the XBox struggles with. The OP has also had their hub replaced to no avail. Whilst I'm happy to go the replacement route if you really want me to, I have reservations at this point that it's going to help.

Whatever is happening, it isn't black and white. If there are other similar threads around these parts, then it would be good to see if we can establish what NICs are in use there too. Might be because I'm looking for it (or due to popularity), but I get a fair few Google hits describing similar issues concerning this family of Realtek adapters.

I think it's still worth swapping your cables out if you haven't already, even in light of the evidence.

Re: LAN PORT DISCONNECTING

I can borrow some CAT7 cables and a laptop early next week. The chances of this making any difference are practically zero but I will try them. Fact is if this is a compatibility issue and not a defective router, the comparability issue lies with the router, not the Realtek controllers. They are the most widely used Ethernet solution out there and have been for many years. Good luck stumbling around in the minutia of chipset versions. Everything worked perfectly before the Hub2 arrived, if the cable swaps yield no improvement I'll contact Plusnet to discuss a replacement Hub and report back on how that goes.
