Re: Line speed degrading severely over the last few months

Either way it's too dark to see. Other than my home though, my neighbour is the only house for hundreds of metres, so unless this CBT is expected to be actually attached to my neighbour's house then along the road is really the only place I could think to look.

The layout is something like (neighbour's house)----->(my house)---->(that box I got a photo of, on the road outside my drive) and then from there it's various other cables running down the road. We're at the end of the road, so nobody is further away from where the connection is coming from than us.

Re: Line speed degrading severely over the last few months

Getting a bit beyond my understanding now - so where are the other properties in the HOA?

Re: Line speed degrading severely over the last few months

It's basically a private sprue road which forks into two tracks. I and my neighbour are at the end of one track, there are maybe 15 to 20 homes in total. I'm about a kilometer from the public road, and most of the houses are on the other fork of the development. Between me and the public road there are 4 other drives, so on average around 250m between each place.

Until someone with more knowledge comments, I'm staying quiet.

Fair enough; I'm well aware that I'm in a really weird telecoms infrastructure blind spot, so I don't blame you.

Re: Line speed degrading severely over the last few months

Wonder if the CBT is at the fork in the drive and the neighbour has a very long connection from it.
Hence to install fibre to you a new 'mile' long fibre Is needed.
Was a member for years, but moved from PN fttc to fttp from an AltNet. Getting 940Mb up and down. Happy to stay on here and try to help others. 

Re: Line speed degrading severely over the last few months

Fix

@stpainter

Thanks for the picture.

If the FTTP was installed around 2018 then that blows my theory about a possible lock in.

Connectorized Block Terminals were introduced in 2017 to reduce install time and costs. The one in the picture was December 2017. House cables plugged into the CBT and then one "fuse" (join) was done indooors. Things have changed slighly since then. However, while I can't remember for sure the longest length of cable available for house installs would be well short of half a mile. I suspect you won't find a CBT on the route to your property. The box on the wall looks like something used to cover a join.

Have a look round the OR website - some where on it you'll find a page to enquire / complain about FTTP coverage. Ask why you can't get it while a neighbour can, providing as much detail as possible for OR to look at (including the picture if the form accepts images).

Re: Line speed degrading severely over the last few months

@bmc tentatively want to mark this as solved; I've had an email from OR's fibre enquiries team that says they think it's an error in their records that I'm not marked as able to order fibre.

Not going to count my chickens until I actually get the ability to order FTTP from Plus, but this is the first positive news about my connection in many years.

Thanks to everyone who's chimed in on this - much appreciated.

@stpainter yes, that's a bit premature😀 keep checking the BTwholesalechecker to see if/when WBC FTTP shows as available

Re: Line speed degrading severely over the last few months

@stpainter

Hopefully this is good news.

OpenReach database errors are not unknown - why didn't we think about that before.

As advised keep reviewing the Checker daily to see if WBC FTTP becomes available. When it does, whack your order into PN. An install may well required a survey first and as you rent your landlord's permission will also be required.

I assume you know Full Fibre with PN signals the end of your phone line.

We did!

Very strange! It could just be an Openreach database error (they're not unknown:face_with_rolling_eyes:).

Re: Line speed degrading severely over the last few months

@MisterW

My apologies - I missed that. Had I seen it I would have suggested either PN be requested to ask for an ORDI check or the OP to fill in the OR form to ask.

Re: Line speed degrading severely over the last few months

No problem, @stpainter said later that it definitely wasn't a database problem , otherwise I would have suggested an ORDI too! Although I'm not sure that would do anything. In cases where FTTPoD is installed , OR should update the FTTP availability for 'passed' premises but I guess its a manual operation and if someone 'forgets' ...
