Thanks for that - I would suggest you report a phone fault first,  using the link previously supplied.

@Jiggerjay  are you connected directly to the BT master socket ?

Cheers just going through the text help now, they said initially they can't find a fault but running tests, I'll keep you updated

Well, if they can't find a problem, I can see one in those Technical Log shots - your connection appears to be very short-lived.

Can you please post the WAN tab from your event log?

@jab1 John, did you notice that the OP's product page quotes est download speed as only 8-9Mb ? Maybe he/she is miles from the cabinet, otherwise why should such a low figure be quoted?

Mike

Re: My Internet seems to only be connecting at 10mbs? Yet my line supports higher speeds

@Longliner I did notice that, but the BTw report shows, providing of course they used their correct phone number, that they sould be able to get significantly higher speeds, and if that 8-9Mb/s figure is correct, PN should not have sold an FTTC product, never mind the Fibre Extra one.

Looking at their line/signal attenuation, they are very close to the cab.

These days , you can pretty much ignore them! The figures seem to adjust based what what the line IS achieving rather than what it SHOULD be achieving. The 'real' estimates are the BTw ones.

Re: My Internet seems to only be connecting at 10mbs? Yet my line supports higher speeds

A few observations:

  • The noise margin looks very high - possibly a very noisy line?
  • The attenuation is relatively low - so it can't be far to the cabinet, as the checker's estimated downloads suggest.
  • The maximum data rate is way above the achieved data rate, but is still significantly below the minimum impacted rate predicted by the checker.
  • The sync rate should ring alarm bells for Plusnet support - even if whatever tests they use don't detect a problem.

And on a related but off-topic subject - it is often requested that the customer perform a quiet line test, which can identify a problem as a noisy line. Now, not everyone has a land line phone theses days - BUT when PSTN is switched off nobody will have one, so that diagnostic tool will no longer be available. So there needs to some other way for BT/OR/Plusnet to identify a noisy line. Maybe they already have a way - if so, why can't the use it NOW.

@corringham I may be wrong here, but with Full Fibre, there is no line to be 'noisy'?

but there will still be copper lines for some time after PSTN switch off, they'll be SoGEA with (possibly) a voip service

Fair enough, @MisterW , so, although I'm not convinced that powers above have thought  about this, they will still need some way of checking?

@Jiggerjay

Have you tried a factory reset on the hub? If not push a paperclip or similar in the reset hole. Keep the switch closed for at least 25 seconds. It will take several minutes to reset and reconnect.

Won't any old mains powered wireless phone do? OK, it won't be able to dial 17070 but it will still put the receiver across the line (I assume) which should be enough.
