Won't any old mains powered wireless phone do? OK, it won't be able to dial 17070 but it will still put the receiver across the line (I assume) which should be enough.

Ideally the phone shouldn't be a mains powered DECT phone - however I'm not convinced that it will be diagnostic in the absence of power from the exchange. Of course, without PSTN some possible sources of noise will not be present, so there may be less need for a quiet line test.

...My experience is that "noise" mostly comes from the BT NTE3C master socket! I am hoping that with the demise of the PSTN and its associated 50vdc line voltage(?) one possible cause of potential issues (electrolysis?) may be removed.

Strange that, @pvmb , on the three occasions I have had 'line' noise, it has been located on the 'e-side' - i.e. prior to the DP.

Hello all, sorry its been a while, I contacted plusnet last weekend and said about my issues and the Mike checked the line and could see a fault, then he got in touch and booked an Openreach engineer who's literally just been to fix the issue, it was something to do with the over head line (I could have had this resolved earlier in the week but I couldn't guarantee I was home because of work)

Really appreciate all the help and advice, my speed is now testing at least 70mbs,and I'm happy with that, took me three days to download the new Harry Potter game this week.
