Network Droppings

Hi to all,
For several months I have had problems with Network dropping off, my system uptime can be up to Forty odd days no problem I noticed when checking Reading that network dropped and was only a couple of days, sometimes 3or 4 times a week then will be ok for a while.
I have connected the plusnet Router 2 to the BT socket directly and it still happened, I removed the BT filter frontage from socket and connected directly into back plate so far its been 4 days. The router is syncing at 79.9mbps down and 20 mbps up, speeds when testing down 67mbps up just short of 21mbps, i live about 100 mtrs from exchange.I raised a ticket but no answer from it yet.
I only have one phone socket with no extensions, I can't fathem it but my download has dropped and is not improving.

@jono Is your phoneline totally silent? Which master socket do you have?

Re: Network Droppings

Hello and thanks for getting back to me, yes phone line clear as a bell, as to type of master socket it is an Openreach MK4 and clips onto backplate.

Re: Network Droppings

OK, good that your phone is clear - eliminates one possible problem. Is the master socket in a position where it can get knocked/disturbed - the Mk4 /5C socket faceplate is rather sensitive to disturbance.

Did these drops occur after the master socket was changed/installed?

Re: Network Droppings

Hi, the socket is where it can be knocked but my wife usually has something in front of it, I've still got a filter plugged into base plate with phone and cable to router, I moved Router back up stairs because it still dropped so form socket to upstairs was OK.

Re: Network Droppings

Hi, sorry omitted to say possibly, it was fitted some time ago before covid but not too long ago, at a guess 3 to 4 yrs ago.

Re: Network Droppings

@jono I half-get your last post. If the connection is stable when when plugged into the test socket (as now?), this implies the issue is with the faceplate which has been damaged. Replacements can be bought for these.

Have the problems started from its installation?

Re: Network Droppings

The MK4 faceplate is not the most reliable. The contact material is cheap and cheerful.

Re: Network Droppings

I keep hearing that, @MisterW , but I've had no issues with mine - mind you, it is in a very safe location, and never gets disturbed.

Re: Network Droppings

Hello,
I said i would post if everything was sorted, after several weeks of investigations the network dropping problem seems to be fixed, BT socket was problem, new one fitted and been stable for last week or so. My current line speed is 73mbps and through all this problem it has gradually moved down , I did test with BT tester and my upload speed is over my package deal at just about 21mbps, all through this fault i have had my download speed drop to about 68mbps.
Can I have a line reset as with my exchange being 100 or so meters away I have always enjoyed excellent speeds.
Any advice on how to get a line reset would be appreciated.
Regards jono
