Re: New ISP live date passed but Plusnet still working?

One of the NOW advisors was adamant  i was getting NOWbband through the plusnet router and all was good. But he couldn't explain why the NOW BBand hub they sent me wouldn't work though. In his defence it is a bit all confusing Smiley

Re: New ISP live date passed but Plusnet still working?

That is a tad generous, for it is utter nonsense!

Personally I would give them a call again ... having switched off the Plusnet router and unplugged it.  Tell them your internet seems to be down and ask them to test it.  When they tell you it is fine ... ask how because the Plusnet router is turned off and disconnected.  I would be looking at every way possible to get out of the contract, for as things stand you will be paying for any phone calls made by the party owning the other phone number.

You MUST keep records of all of your conversations with NOW.

Usually BTOR will reject orders where the ISP's address / number do not match those in the BTOR database - we see a good number of those around here, resulting in orders being cancelled by BTOR.  Such issues need an ORDI request to correct the number / address pairing.  It is possible that NOW pushed that through by one means or another.

As for starting again with NOW ... I'm sure that I would not be taking such a risk ... once bitten...!!!

@siriuscat to confirm what @Townman said, utter rubbish!

Now use the Sky network and they use a different broadband authentication method (called MER)  than Plusnet.

The plusnet router does not support this method and therefore it is technically impossible for it to work on  Now connection.

"Tell them your internet seems to be down and ask them to test it.  When they tell you it is fine ... ask how because the Plusnet router is turned off and disconnected".

This is what I said when I originally phoned up but eventually I realised they were testing someone elses line which (to the advisor) was showing as OK up to the (someone elses) indoor socket. When I plugged in plusnet and said it was working they couldn't figure that out.

I have started to note all calls etc (Great advice).

And your BTOR info is very much appreciated.

Re: New ISP live date passed but Plusnet still working?

It is just possible that the owner of the other line is (was) already with Sky / NOW so it might well report AOK but it is not YOUR service.

personally I’d be getting the dodge out of there.  Cancelling the DD and using the distance selling 14 day cooling off period to quit the contract.  Frankly it appears that you are on a hiding to nothing to sort this.

Thankfully your Plusnet service is still keeping you connected.

Re: New ISP live date passed but Plusnet still working?

Just called NOW to cancel the broadband/calls.

It was within the cooling off period so was very straightforward. I just said I did not require the service anymore. Neither I nor the advisor mentioned the wrong landline balls-up so the other landline will go dead by tomorrow night. I feel bad as this is probably affecting an innocent party, but I'm not sure what else I could do.

Now that YOU are clear of risk from NOW's billing - give the other party a call - explain the total foul-up NOW has made and could not sort out, advising that they are at risk of their service being terminated within 24 hours.  Suggest they speak with THEIR service provider about the issue.

Somewhere along the way, they should have received a service termination warning.

Delighted to hear that you have a safe outcome, desperately sad that a third party has been impacted in the unfortunate process.
