Orange flashing light after activation

I received an email from Plusnet at 12:54 that my broadband product change is complete. I have switched on and plugged in my router after doing so. The light on the router is now flashing orange. Is this normal or should I be concerned that more work will be required?

Re: Orange flashing light after activation

@barryn2024 Is this a transfer from another ISP? If it is, it can take up to 23.59 of your 'go-live' date for all the cogs to fall in place on the PN systems. If you still don't have blue light tomorrow morning, post back and we can advise further.

Re: Orange flashing light after activation

No it's not a transfer from a new ISP. We have moved into a new address and we previously had plusnet but have renewed our contract. The previous tenants also had plusnet too.

Ah, so it is a 'new' installation, then. The comments I made above will still apply in this case.

@barryn2024 is your router connected to the Master socket ?

is it a dual style socket ? in which case are you connecting the router to the DSL socket ?

Re: Orange flashing light after activation

@MisterW that's correct, it's an Openreach dual style socket. I have connected the red ended ethernet cable into the left hand port as it does not fit in the right hand one. The other end of the ethernet cable that's in the the router is in the WAN port.

Re: Orange flashing light after activation

@barryn2024 that doesnt sound right!. You should be using the DSL cable and connecting the DSL port on the router to the DSL port on the master socket.

The red WAN port and ethernet cable are ONLY used on Full Fibre to connect to the ONT

edit: use the Help pages here to shwo how the router should be connected https://www.plus.net/help/broadband/router-setup-guides/

Re: Orange flashing light after activation

This is what the setup guide said:

Plug one end of the Ethernet cable with red ends into your hub's WAN port. Then plug the other end into the Openreach ONT's Port 1/Lan1 port (the number of ports on the ONT can differ).

This is the instructions that I have followed, are you suggesting that these are wrong? 🤔

Re: Orange flashing light after activation

@barryn2024 Is this an FTTC or FTTP service. If it it is FTTP, you plug the cable into the ONT - not the phone master socket.

Re: Orange flashing light after activation

@barryn2024 Ok, lets jsut confirm what product you have ordered ? is it Fibre or Full Fibre ?

The instructions you refer to are for Full Fibre for which there will be an ONT installed.

From your description it would seem you have a normal Openreach master socket with a DSL & Phone connection.

Perhaps you could post a picture of what you have ?

Do you have something that looks like this:

Thanks John, I was trying to find a picture of an ONT

Re: Orange flashing light after activation

Nope it doesn't look like this. It's a master socket 5c. I tried to upload a photo but mobile data is too bad.

I ordered Full Fibre 500

Re: Orange flashing light after activation

Right, if you ordered Full Fibre (FTTP) then you should have either already have the box shown, or should have had a n Openreach engineer out to fit one - FF500 does not work over copper.

Re: Orange flashing light after activation

It sounds like this has been mis-sold to us then as I was never asked about having this box and I was told that we didn't need an engineer to come over.
