Reductions in broadband speed (and instability)

I've been using Plusnet FTTC (Unlimited Fibre Extra) broadband for several years, mostly without complaint.  Having being recently alerted to the need to renew my contract, I now observe a small but significant fall in broadband speed with occasional drop outs.

I'm using my original BT supplied OpenReach HG612 modem with three Google Nest Pro WiFi mesh units; one of which forms the router. The Google Home app monitors daily network performance (at the router), and until recently that had been rock-solid and always ranged between the upper-60s to 70 Mbps.   In the last month it has fallen to between 46-56 Mbps. Not outrageously poor in itself, but still a notable fall, and that coupled with occasional short-term drop outs*, makes me want to review before committing to renewal (especially with loss of my landline).

Is there any easy way to determine what might be going on?

*Short term drops out as determined by loss of home WiFi, where Google router and mesh units are flashing, and sometimes with DSL light loss at OpenReach modem – but often I don't get to the modem before the WiFi stabilises.

@mushroom_daddy Sounds like it could be an Openreach network issue to me, but I'll leave it to others to  comment/follow up - I'm not familiar with your kits reporting  capabilities, and I', not going to be around much , so don't really want to get involved.

More flakey connections today with another router drop out, can any PlusNet agent see whether our DSL has been stable in recent days/weeks?

Re: Reductions in broadband speed (and instability)

Your best option would be to follow the below:

First thing to check: Is your phoneline clear? Dial 17070 (preferably from a corded phone), select option 2. Once your phone number is confirmed, there should be silence on the line except for the regular 'Quiet Line Test' message - any other noise, report a PHONE problem via: https://www.plus.net/help/report-a-problem/phone/

If the phone test passes, report a broadband problem via: https://www.plus.net/help/report-a-problem/broadband/

Let us know the result - if the tests come back as clear but you still have a problem, we need to investigate further.

The above assumes you still have 'normal' landline connection - if you have a SOGEA (internet only) one, just use the second link to report a network issue.

Re: Reductions in broadband speed (and instability)

Thanks for the advice.  I have done all of this.  The landline test was clear, and the bots have done their stuff without finding any obvious problems (but other than the speed reductions, drop outs have been intermittent rather than constant).  I've also reset my router locally.  Lets see what happens over the next few days.
