I posted this a while ago and failed to reply to plustnet et al as I was quite busy and basically, despite the wires looking terrible, things have been working.
https://community.plus.net/t5/Broadband/What-to-do-and-who-to-speak-to-improve-this-wire-connectivit...
Having various construction works done now and the connection is obviosly quite fragile as it cuts out occasionally.
I would like to book someone (plusnet? openreach?) to review all the connections once the works are done (prob Feb 27 onward). There are a number of legacy connections coming in and I'm not sure wer are on the best one.
What is the best way to contact?

Hey there @dcdc
How's this week treating you? You having a good one?

I think now is good. Basically through the rough phase.
So there are two issues:
a) existing connection id dodgy (one wire only left, looks home made or something) and cuts out if anyone moves anything near the incoming box.
b) we are have many incoming wires on the front (where the work is done) and are not sure exactly which cables are in use, not are we sure that the connection currently used for the broadband is actually the best choice.
I'm not sure who does what services here. And I'm not sure if we are able to make a judgement call and try cutting a cable we think is unused (looks like phone?) or if that is considered damaging properly owned by some other entity.

An engineer is booked to visit tomorrow. I know nothing of what they will be able to do or fix or if they can suggest how to deal with testing wires outside still.

FWIW engineer came (two actually, one newer trainee and a senior one) and they went above and beyond. Found multiple issues with the previous install and traced wires. Very thankful and impressed!

I'm seeing some losses and latency spikes that I think might be local to my device or the line. I *think* they start somewhere between one night ago and today (I was not online at home yesterday to tell).
Connections drops and goes offline. I can see errors in the router logs.

The bot is currently running some tests. Router went offline a bit as the tests started. Seeing up to 75% packet loss on the first hop.
