Re: Slow internet response

I have not changed the DNS server setting. Now it is DNS servers = Auto: YES. It seems that if I set it to "No", I need to fill in primary DNS and secondary DNS? How can I change it?. I have attached the exported event log.

@corringham

I have tried to disconnect all devices from the router (both LAN and WIFI) except the PC and changed the ethernet cables and ports but it doesn't help.

Re: Slow internet response

Nothing immediately jumps out at me from your logs - do you see anything @Dan_the_Van ?

For DNS servers I'd try setting them to 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 - that is Cloudflare and Google. They are fast, and that will rule out Plusnet's DNS servers.

Do you have any port forwarding or other settings that would be lost if you did a factory reset of the router?

It might be worth trying to disable IPv6 if that is possible on a Hub2 - Dan?

Re: Slow internet response

Error counts (all of them) are not visible/not displayed in the Hub 2 web interface.

Re: Slow internet response

I think I never set port forwarding. I have attached the IPv6 config. I'm not sure whether it is disable or not and how to disable it. I could try resetting the router if it could help.

Re: Slow internet response

@thaveec

I can see three active devices, lots of DSL/PPP reconnects due to the hub being turned off/on.

realme-5i is a wireless device always connecting to 2.4Ghz

Galaxy-A33-5G - wireless always 5Ghz

DESKTOP-LV2547I - wired

Last night (15 Nov) around 7:20 it looked like the laptop ethernet cable kept on being moved between LAN ports, where you having problems then?

Wireless devices seem to be dropping as well, could be wireless congestion, I would install Wifi Analyzer author Kevin Yaun from the google play store to see how congested the wireless is.

Re: Slow internet response

@jab1, IPv6 is not enabled on the network, but it is enabled on the Hub - does that just mean that the Hub is capable of IPv6? There are IPV6CP requests when the hub connects, and IPv6 neighbour discovery events on the LAN, but I don't see any devices connecting with IPv6 which was one possible cause of problems that has appeared in other threads about console connections.

@Dan_the_Van , the ethernet being moved ports was my suggestion to rule out a duff port.

Re: Slow internet response

@corringham I honestly don't know enough to answer your question, but I was under the impression that IPV6 was a protocol developed to overcome the limitations (shortage of addresses) of IPV4, which Plusnet have not, so far, enabled - so even if the Hub can handle it, which by implication it can, no devices would be able to connect with it.

Re: Slow internet response

@jab1 I know exactly what IPv4 and IPv6 are (and IPv6 fixes a number of limitations of IPv4 not just the number of addresses).

However, devices can connect using IPv6 over the LAN if the router has IPv6 enabled even if the WAN is not IPv6 enabled. If they do so they can use IPv6 DNS to resolve addresses - and get an IPv6 address for a server.

When the router's handling of the translations from the IPv6 LAN to the IPv4 WAN don't quite work then things can go wrong (this has been the case with some console connection issues that have appeared in other threads). Also, if a device tries to connect to a sever using an IPv6 address returned by the DNS, and the WAN is not IPv6 enabled, then there will be no route to the server - leading to a timeout and no connection.

Good routers (above cheapo consumer grade) will handle these situations seamlessly. I'm not so confident about the Plusnet hubs.

Re: Slow internet response

I'll take your word for all that, @corringham . As the PN hubs are re-badged BT kit, that means BT Broadband customers will be suffering too.

Re: Slow internet response

BT customers won't suffer much as BT connections actually offer IPv6 (although I believe their DNS servers are only on the IPv4 network for some reason - although they serve both IPV4 and IPv6 addresses).

Re: Slow internet response

@corringham You'd expect most providers to be IPv6 enabled by now, especially with the prices of /24 ranges.

Re: Slow internet response

I just tested different ethernet cables and ports as it has been suggested in the previous topic. I also disconnect all WIFI connection just to have the PC alone connecting to the router. These do not help.

I don' know if it is about the config. on the router but I think I just use the factory setting and don't change anything before this problem occurs. I also have exactly the same devices (PC, mobile phones, PS5, cables, etc.) for months. At this point, I start to think that the router has some problems and doesn't work properly. If this is true, what should I do next? Do I need to buy another router? Can Plusnet provide me a new router?

Re: Slow internet response

I agree the router is looking suspicious as you've ruled out quite a few other things so far.

You could try a factory reset of this one - you'd just need your logon details in case it doesn't reconfigure automatically. I think it just takes a paper-clip in the reset hole for 20s (until the lights do something or other - there are details on-line somewhere).

You can ask Plusnet for a new router - I expect they will charge P&P for it. Or you could get your own (there are Hub2s on e-bay quite cheap).

Re: Slow internet response

This Hub is reporting many times it has performed " CWMP: Initializing transaction for event code 8 DIAGNOSTICS COMPLETE" which is something my device has never done, which make me suspicious it not performing as expected.

I would agree the Hub doesn't look good, I would expect you would have some form of guarantee, so I would suggest speaking to plusnet, repurposing someone else device can cause issues when using it if it is registered to someone else, it need to be enrolled to the management system so you receive firmware updates.

HTH.
