Assuming that you have  your b's and B's mixed up as downloads are, in my experience, always measured in Bytes, not bits:

!2GB = 96Gb. So if this took 2 hours then this is 48Gb/hr.

Dividing this by 3600 gives us 13.3 Mb/s, which sounds about right for your current download speed.

BT estimates that you should be getting nearer 80Mb/s

@Baldrick1 As I have noticed quite a bit recently(ish), the BTw report is giving some dodgy possible speeds. Looking at the OP's attenuation, and putting it in a couple of calculators, their Hub-reported figures (attainable) look more realistic, although I agree there is something dodgy on their circuit.

On the other hand there are all sorts of faults that would attenuate the signal, giving the observed results. Attenuation is affected by the condition as well as the length of copper in circuit.

Thanks @Baldrick1, I imagine I am not the first person to get confused between MB and Mb/s :-). To confirm, the download on Friday was 12.6GB in total, and I was regularly getting speeds of under 1Mb/s (luckily I took a screenshot). Fridays Download Speed.png

Thanks for the link to the Mobile Bot, I will give this a shot and update.

How have you concluded this? It is dropping but are you aware that the 871kB/s is, as explained earlier, just under 7Mb/s. 
The fault reporting bot is currently active, if you use that it will be interesting to learn of their response.

The other thing to realise is that when downloading you can’t receive data any faster than the other end is sending it to you.

As an aside to @Baldrick1 's comment above, it is not just your download speed that affects the time taken, but also the capabilities of/load on the server at the other end.

Along side the confusion between bits and bytes speed inspection, there is no mention of how the device is connected to the router - wifi or ethernet.

Nor any description of the network within the household, wiring to the router, external switches, secondary AP's, WiFi repeaters or Ethernet over Power adapters, let alone the power of the PC and its performance profile (CPU, disk and memory) when dealing with sustained data transfer.

Video streaming is not as intensive as some would have use believe - a good quality 5-6mbps is quite adequate for one TV.  Bulk data transfer is something else.

All that said, if faced with this scenario, I would be unconcerned about the perceived 1mBps or mistakenly reported 1mbps and worry more about the 16mbps FTTC service ... which is little more than the forecast ADSL speed.  14mbps ADSL suggests that the house to the exchange is fairly short (around 2km) - for VDSL to be this bad, the green cabinet would need to be within sight of the exchange.

The BTW availability report suggested that the FTTC speed should be at the top end of the product's capability.  The first culprit is likely to the copper d-side circuit, which requires  TELEPHONE fault report to be raised.  A telephone handset would take a substantial level of angst out of understanding what is going on here ... is that a bit too simples?
