Speeds so slow I could send it by post

I've been frustrated of late with my internet speed when it comes to downloads, games in particular. I only download in the evening going into the night time, rarely during the day. So over the last few days I've been running speedtests using plus nets own speedchecker. This is what my download speed is. other than typing this on a laptop, there is nothing other than a game dowloading which already has most of the game loaded by disc. Is this an acceptable speed?

@Sylus1 What package are you on? What has been your speed previously?

@Sylus1  What are you expecting to happen if you run a speed test while a game download is in progress? You will not get a meaningful result. You only have a fixed amount of bandwidth and it will be shared between the download and the speed test. To get a true speed test result any other activity on the connection must be stopped.

Good point, @RealAleMadrid . IF the OP comes back and answers the questions, maybe we can get some idea of the real problem - if there is one.

@jab1  Well the Upload speed on the test in msg#1 one looks pretty good at 18.74Mbps so I suspect the Download is actually OK but the OP appears to be expecting to get full speed while also downloading a game.🙄

Apologies for the delay in replying. I'm on the fibre package with no phone, 59.1mb minimum guarranteed speed. I recently moved and in my last place I had Virgin media with an average speed of 132mps for around the same price. My new address does not have virgin media so I moved to plusnet. The difference between the two similarly priced services was noteable enough to ask the forum, is this the norm? Thanks to those who replied.

So, you moved from VM, which uses a totally different technology, and expect them to be the same? Not possible, I'm afraid.

Nope, I was asking the community if the incredibly slow speed was the norm/a glitch etc. I was aware of the differences in tech but that seemed quite low

Although @Tina11192 has probably explained it to you, the maximum speed you can get on FTTC is 80Mb/s down, 20 up, but to achieve that, the cab needs to be immediately in front of your gate, as the length of copper from there to you increases, your attainable speed will fall away.
