Re: Strange disconnects on adsl

The modem is a pretty old OpenReach ECI 061513. Its pretty locked down as far as i know. You cant even get line stats off it, let alone logs. I havent checked the lights during the problem, but my router is showing the line synced and the connection is still up (even though it has effectively hung). I'll make sure i double check next time it happens.

You are right though, maybe its time for a new modem.

Not even sure i have a plusnet router any more. The last one i had from them was probably more than 10 years ago.

Re: Strange disconnects on adsl

@markangeltruema   what is it on your network that is generating so much traffic even at night when you would expect things to be quieter?

Your TBB graph looks very busy.

Re: Strange disconnects on adsl

I'm pretty new to interpreting those graphs. Are you saying that something I'm uploading/downloading is causing the yellow spikes in latency because i'm pretty sure i'm not downloading anything excessive at any time of the day? I'm at home alone most days with just teams meeting traffic and emails etc, and in the evening maybe a bit of youtube but nothing OTT.

The TBB site says this kind of graph is normal. It could be things such as my home automation devices calling out i guess? My blue section stays pretty stable it seems.

Re: Strange disconnects on adsl

@markangeltruema   your graph shows higher levels of yellow spikes than the example, and they continue through the night when I expect you are asleep. You can probably tell when you are on Teams, or watching 4K streaming, but inbetween those times I would expect there would be no yellow spikes - so I would first be looking to see what is causing it.

Re: Strange disconnects on adsl

my guess is something on my extensive home automation setup/homelab. I'll try turning some things off overnight and see if things calm down at all.

Re: Strange disconnects on adsl

Hi @markangeltruema thanks for flagging this, I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with the broadband service.

I have looked into this matter and ran a line test, which is showing no fault with the line or the area, I have also checked the provisioning of the line and all settings are correct. I note that you stated you are using a Netgear RAX70, have you tried using the Plusnet router originally supplied by us, to see if the issue is replicated with that hub as well.

Look forward to hearing from you soon

Re: Strange disconnects on adsl

Hi @Tina11192

Thanks for getting back to me.

Unfortunately the last time I used a plusnet hub was probably over 10 years ago, so I do not have one available to me to test with. I was waiting for you to confirm the line status (i did raise a ticket also) before I thought about ordering a new modem  or doing a factory reset on the RAX70.

Its probably a long shot as i haven't used your hardware in a long time, but is there any way of getting a hub to test with, even a refurb etc? It might be that i can run the hub in access point mode as i need the features of the RAX70 so cant really replace that.

@markangeltruema

If you receive a Hub two which is likely, it can be reconfigured to be a modem only device so you can replace your ageing  Openreach modem with it.

Re: Strange disconnects on adsl

Thanks, yeah i think i'm getting a Hub 2 and plan to initially start with it in bridge mode. If i still have issues then i can switch it to full router mode and test that way as well to eliminate the Netgear if needs be. Hopefully it is the modem.

Re: Strange disconnects on adsl

Just received the Plusnet Hub 2. Set it up in bridge mode. Replaced the BT modem with it. Did a speed test

Screenshot 2025-04-04 133554.png

Its gone from 51mbps to nearly 71 and upload from 11 to 13. Ping has also improved massively.

I guess we can say that the modem was not "optimal" but lets see how the connection is in terms of stability over the next week or so.
