Streaming not working during evening / night

Hi everyone. A bit of a strange question. I have a Firestick running with my TV but during the evening & early night streaming stops working on some of the apps. These apps are [Removed] plus sometimes others. I have done all the usual things and also reset the Firestick to factory settings on several occasions but nothing. I was just wondering if there could be some issue with my Plusnet broadband service. I've no idea where to go next so thought I'd post a question here first. Thanks

Forgot to mention. In the morning it comes back on and works normally during the day but stops again every evening around the same time? Very strange.

At least one of those apps is what can best be described as "dodgy" - as in supplying unofficial streams.

This is what you get with them usually. In the evenings, when too many people try to access them, they just crash.

If you want good quality streaming, the first thing to do would be to subscribe to official apps and services.

Hi. Yes. I understand that. But why do they, and most of my official streaming services, go off around the same time each evening? Surely times would vary if streaming services were being uses as and when? This is what I don't understand. Thanks

What non-illegal services stop working?

I assume these are legal as are readily available to use? Not sure if I can mention these but here goes: Cinema, LiveNet TV, BBC IPlayer, ITV X and some others my Wife uses.

What happens when you try iPlayer in the evening and what time does it happen?
There's nothing preventing these services from working as a whole, I use streaming a lot in the evening for example.
So could be something with your connection or on your local network, the more information you can provide the better

Hi. I'm not too savvy with modern tech. All I can tell you is that ITV X slows down and keeps stopping (off & on intermittently) and BBC IPlayer just shows the circular loop (buffering I assume?) going round in the centre. Sometimes it'll come on and then not. Generally this happens around early evening and lasts for the remainder of the evening. Occasionally these will work. Sorry for being a little vague.

Like a road, the "pipe" between you and the streaming provider can get over-busy. Like the road, the congestion can happen in several places:

- At the service provider ... although a decent provider (BBC IPlayer goes to the top of that list!) will have sufficient computer and bandwidth capacity

- in "the cloud". Unlikely, in the UK we have very good provision.

- on your ISP network. Again, this is well sized in the UK

- "in your street": just like your local street has a limited size, to cover all the houses in your street, the "broadband box" that feeds your houses has a limited bandwidth coming in, and it has to be shared with maybe 25 others.... who are also streaming, playing games etc How many you share it with depends on your provider, and which service you buy.

- At your home: who else uses your broadband. Who else uses your wifi? These are both pinch-points.

My streaming is usually 100% fine, but the other evening, I was getting problems, don't know why, but it sorted itself out later on.

Evening is peak-time, if you're gonna get issues, it will be then. Kinda like the roads, between 8:30 and 9:00 am.

I understand. Thought it may have been a Plusnet issue? I'll just have to watch normal TV during the evenings then? Thanks for the advice

It could be a Plusnet (or OR) congestion issue, but it is probably more likely to be WiFi related - I assume your TV and other affected devices are connected by WiFi rather than ethernet cable?

You could check what WiFi devices are visible and what band they are using - there are apps available for mobile phones which display WiFi bands. If your neighbours are also using WiFi at the same time as you and have their routers on the same channels there could be interference which will affect you both.

If you can rule out WiFi issues - for instance by trying a PC or laptop connected to the router by an ethrenet cable and experiencing the same issues - then you should report a problem to Plusnet.
