I am wanting to switch my contract from Unlimited Fibre to Full Fibre 74. As part of my current plan I have a Hub One router, but it says online that I need the Hub Two router for Full Fibre 74. When trying to switch the contract via the website I can add the Hub Two router to my order but since I work from home, I absolutely need the internet to work between now and the router's arrival. So my question is, will my Hub One router still work after switch, and do I really strictly need the Hub Two router or is it more a recommendation if I want to get the full speed out of the new contract.
The contract is basically the same price but faster, so I wouldn't mind not being able to actually reach those new speeds with the old router for the first week.

@saschavii As the switch to the Full Fibre product will mean the installation of an ONT - involving an OpeReach engineer visit, you would not switch connection until that ONT has been installed and confirmed working. As part of the order process, the Hub2 would be despatched via RM Tracked24 to arrive 1 or 2 days prior to your confirmed engineer visit.

@jab1 Thanks so much for the response, however, does this mean that I can continue using my old router until the engineer's visit, because I would still be on the old plan as well, or does the old plan get cancelled immediately?

You would continue on your current FTTC connection/contract until the FF connection was installed and working.

Ideally you should use the Hub 2 router but the Hub 1 will still work on an Full fibre connection by connecting the ONT to the Hub 1 WAN port. However the Hub 1 has a limit of around 30Mb on the upstream. In reality, that's not a problem on the FF74 product since the upstream is only 20Mb. It would be a problem on the higher speed FF products though.

If my memory serves me correctly the Hub1 does not have a WAN port which is needed for FTTP.
If you phone your order in you could ask for the Hub2 to be dispatched immediately - it will work with your current service (you just need to change the WiFi SSID & P/W).
For FTTP you connect via an ethernet cable so you can change the location of your router should you wish (no cable length restrictions). There is also a bit of leeway as to where the ONT goes but it does need to be near a power source.
I assume you know you'll lose your phone service - if this matters.

The Hub One DOES have a WAN port
To use the Hub One it maybe necessary to factory reset prior connecting the WAN port to the ONT. As part of a first boot after a factory reset it auto detects a DSL or WAN port connection and enabled the required port as required.
If it is important to you the Hub Two 2.4 and 5GHz wireless name can not be split.

Not only does the Hub 1 have a WAN port, its in addition to the 4 LAN ports whereas the Hub 2 uses port 4 , thus giving only 3 LAN ports.

Yes @MisterW the hub one does have a WAN and 4xLAN ports as per the video on the Plusnet support site...
