Upgrade to Hub Two?

We've been with Plusnet for several years, we have a Hub One. I was just looking at renewal/upgrade options and all options include a Hub Two. Is there a way of getting a new Hub Two as an existing customer without upgrading (if you even get a new hub if upgrading to full fibre).

Fix

@janeybeans How long have you got left on your current contract - you could always request a new Hub on re-contracting?

Alternatively, give PN a call and see if they will send you one. In either case, there will be a £6.99 P+P charge.

Re: Upgrade to Hub Two?

Hi John, we have 2 months left on our contract but it's giving me the option of renewing now. I'll contact them tomorrow and see what they say. Thanks.

Re: Upgrade to Hub Two?

A bit off topic, but my renewal is due in the next 3 months or so.
I've been debating with myself whether it is better to renew before the price rise at the end of March (and accept there will be a 7.9% rise then) or wait until after the price rise (on the assumption that the price then should reflect "market forces" and hopefully will not be much higher than is available now.)
I'd be interested to hear opinions as to the best course of action - either as speculation or based on past experience.

@janeybeans

If PN are offering a new contract now is it because they're trying to get you onto a SOGEA line (no phone)?

Re: Upgrade to Hub Two?

Hi Brian. I've just double checked the offers. The standard renewal includes line rental, the upgrade to full fibre does not.

Re: Upgrade to Hub Two?

The upgrade to FF doesn't for anyone, @janeybeans  - PN do not offer VoIP solution, but you can renew on you current product without losing the landline - for now. Any change of product will mean the loss of the phone, though.

Re: Upgrade to Hub Two?

Hi Ian, good question. I looked at upgrade offers a month or so ago and they're a few pounds more a month now than they were then. I can't remember if it was showing me a standard renewal price then, I don't think it was. The toss up is that the standard fibre renewal is only £1 more than the full fibre cost and whether I can be bothered with the hassle of upgrading (we don't NEED faster speeds). So on the basis that it's already gone up in the last month or so, before the price rises, I'm not sure it'll get any better. What's galling is that new customers can get it cheaper than my offers, with a gift card sweetener.

@janeybeans You could always ring and haggle.

I always haggle! And yep, knew that upgrade would lose the phone line. Actually don't use it that often so it's not a deal breaker.

Re: Upgrade to Hub Two?

My opinion, FWIW, is that if the phone is not essential, is to go for Full Fibre - I'm due to go that way on Monday. I too don't need the extra speed, I haven't used the landline to make external calls for the whole  time I've been with my current ISP, and haven't missed it. I do have their version of 'Digital Voice' though, but only because I need it for a couple of my contacts who prefer to use the traditional phone.
