Warning SOGEA being described as much much better then FTTC

After 18 months in my present house with Plusnet I am leaving because nobody is able to fix what passes for copper between my house and the cabinet 1.6Kms away. It has been reported by various OR people as a mixture of copper and aluminum of several different gauges. I am finally given up having tried both ADSL & VDSL and am now happily using 4G (radio) instead.

When I called the leaving us people to ensure the contract was terminated the tried to sell me SOGEA as "a new product" that will completely solve all your problems.............

Fortunately I was not persuaded and asked for time to check AND what I have uncovered is basically marketing BS. SOGOA uses VDSL2 just like FTTC the only difference being the ability to remove filters & not having PSTN equipment connected, frankly in my case of an abysmal line no difference at all.

I am disappointed that in 18months Plusnet have not been more pro-active by leaning on OR BUT as OR are busy installing fibre everywhere I think they will do anything to avoid maintaining the existing network (and they can't wait to sell it to the scrap-man).

FTTP is not due to be rolled out till December 2026 here and I will be a long gone customer by then.

To end beware salesmen with forked tongues!

Tp-link W8960n on longgggggggg line!

Thanks for posting that, as it might save someone else from being taken in by Plusnet call-centre misinformation !
