Re: Website seems to be blocked/inaccessible via PlusNet

Hi,

I noticed this yesterday and reported it to my employer, which happens to be Fastly.

Our NOC team has contacted the BT and Plusnet respective teams with their findings, asking them to investigate.

This seems to be more widespread, and the affected IP addresses and their covering subnets are as follows:

I've also called support this morning, but they said they could do nothing (?).

Hopefully, the network teams will figure it out and correct the issue asap.

Back up for me, and also on EE, which was having the same problem. Looks like somebody was hosting malware on a Github Pages site, which meant that Spamhaus.org flagged that block of IP addresses as suspicious. Which meant that BT's network started blocking traffic to any website hosted on any of those addresses.

https://community.ee.co.uk/t5/Broadband-Landline/Unable-to-access-certain-websites/m-p/1393178/emcs_...

https://github.com/orgs/community/discussions/127187

As of 12:09 on June 4th those addresses (185.199.108.153, 185.199.109.153, 185.199.110.153, 185.199.111.153) still show up in Spamhaus' block list so I'm guessing BT have done something to make sure those addresses don't get filtered.

FWIW, when I spoke to Plusnet support this morning, I told them it appeared to be an upstream issue at BT and they just flat out told me there was no escalation path for this kind of incident and that I should use a VPN until it got fixed, which wasn't terribly reassuring.

Same.

The fact that BT applies these blocks blindly is mind-boggling.

I got the same response (minus the VPN part). I understand where the support folks are coming from, but this is not acceptable.

There should be a way to raise this internally.
