You have advised that you are 1km from the cabinet.
The BTw services available report states that FTTC will do no more than 39mbps (that is bit sync speed).
Your router reported 39.999 with a 7.7dB SNRM which infers on a good day it might do better than the 40/10 product you are paying for. However it is not rated higher so you will not be offered 80/20 … as THAT would be paying for something you are unlikely to get.
DATA speeds report circa 35mbps - that is 10% less than sync speed … which allowing for transmission overheads (error management, hand shaking, transmission frames, etc) is right on the nail.
If there are things above you do not understand, try doing a Google search.
Agreed it would be ideal if the DLM was not adjusting the line at 2am when you are not using it, but that is not exactly an inconvenience.
It is difficult to find something which can be fixed here … which meets your expectations.

i'm quite happy with the speed i'm getting atm with plusnet providing it was to continue instead of the drops it does. the DLM reset or whatever at 02:30 isn't a problem as far as when it happens is concerned,it's why it happens that is the worry. what the plusnet guy saw as being wrong, he didn't say and i therefore have no idea. that in itself is a bit frustrating. if i get any news, i'll update here.
as for the 80/20 service are you saying the router isn't capable of handling that or that the line isn't or maybe both aren't? that would explain why i've never been offered the higher rate. being on the 40/10 service isn't the problem, it's the continuous failing of that service, dropping down to well below the guaranteed minimum. i believe i posted a screenshot of the speed falling to 28mbps which surely is unacceptable.
