Request a phonebook

Hello

We haven’t had a phonebook for a while, I was looking to order one from the BT site at this link but unfortunately it won’t take my PlusNet account number (it’s 3 characters too short) and it tells me to contact yourselves to arrange for a phonebook to be sent out to us.

https://www.thephonebook.bt.com/HelpAndSupport/RequestReplacement/

My colleague called you earlier but your contact centre wasn’t sure how to do it. I’ve seen a few threads on this forum asking for the same thing and the mods manually did them I think.

Please could you post us out a Liverpool phonebook? 🙂 To the address associated with our account (PlusNet username on my community profile).

If there is any cost associated with this then please could you advise beforehand (hopefully it should be free since we’ve not had one for a while).

Many thanks!

You can order a phonebook from here.

Re: Request a phonebook

Actually that’s not true @Gel - the telephone companies are required to provide them (see screenshot) - it’s just that non-BT customers can buy them from BT (why would you when your own phone provider is required to give you one?)

Re: Request a phonebook

Hi @bobpullen , that order link is for when you want to buy a phonebook, not for when you want a free one sent to you from your ISP under Ofcom’s General Condition 8.

As for the news link, that’s actually exactly the reason I want one (they’re stopping doing them within about the next 6 months).

Re: Request a phonebook

@ShiningStar - you didn't specify it *had* to be free, merely that you'd prefer it if it was 😉
On a slightly less tongue in cheek note, I'm not familiar with the process. Happy to ask around when I'm next able, but it won't be until next week.

For those that need a good read before bedtime, this Ofcom consultation may help.

Not convinced there is a requirement to give out free phone books these days.

Re: Request a phonebook

Hi @ShiningStar

I've done some digging and found that if you call this number (0800 833 400) and mention you're a Plusnet customer you should have one sent out for free.

Just to make you aware as well from March next year it'll no longer be possible to order a printed version for free as explained here

After the 3rd of November I will have a limited presence here as I have moved to a new role

Re: Request a phonebook

Had a phonebook delivered about 2 weeks ago. The labelling on it clearly states it will be the final incarnation of the physical phonebook.

Re: Request a phonebook

Hi @MatthewWheeler

Thanks for looking into this for me. I just tried to call that number (option 1 then option 1) but after about 5 minutes there was still no answer. Then it asked me to leave a voicemail but it immediately hung up as soon as the tone went.

Cheers

Re: Request a phonebook

Sorry to hear that @ShiningStar

The opening times I've been advised for them are 9am-5pm so it may be worth trying again tomorrow
