Retain a phone number on a business account

As I get close to closing my PN Business account, how do I retain control of the telephone number on the account so I can register it with a VoIP service? Do I shift it before closing the account?

If you want uninterrupted phone service I suspect changing to a provider that can offer both phone and broadband may be the better option.
If you move the phone number to a VoIP provider first that will cancel your Plusnet broadband.
If you wait for the Plusnet broadband to swap over your phone number will go into quarantine and it can take a (competent) VoIP provider some days to recover it.
I swapped a (residential) broadband account to BT, and the phone was down for less than an hour, with regular (~ every 15 minute) text updates of progress.
If you swap to a residential Plusnet account be aware that the T&Cs explicitly bar business use! (and there is no VAT receipt available so you can't reclaim VAT)

Plusnet are NOT permitting LTD. companies to switch to residential tariffs. There is though an inference that unincorporated companies and sole traders may be able opt for a residential account ... barring the considerations noted by @corringham.
That said, Plusnet is not offering any new telephone services - that is they are not offering VoIP and copper borne services are on stop sell across much of the nation.
In another browser tab, login into the Plusnet user portal BEFORE clicking the fault & ticket links
Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Hi, well I am up and running with another (not BT) provider already using the old (spare) fax number / line. Just waiting for one user who has a plus.net email on our account to migrate off then I can close PN.
Sounds like the best way to close the account is just to move it's number!
Interesting the new provider download speed is 30% faster then PN!
