Transferring out a .co.uk domain name

Hello, I am having trouble transferring out my domain jacom.co.uk

I contacted support last saturday when my emails stopped working, I was told that my account had been closed, and that I had lost all my emails. There were prefus apologies for the closing of the account, that had not been initiated by me (the account holder, for the last 25 years). I was promised to be contacted within 72hours via my gmail account. One week later, and still nothing.

I want to transfer jacom.co.uk to OVHcloud. I have given you their IPS TAG (OVH-FR) and I have started the request at their end, and renewed it as it only stays open 5 days.

They say that they send an email to the owner to complete the transfer with an authcode. PN are the domain registrar and the ones that get this email. How can I get in touch directly with Netops to get this code?

Thank you in advance for any help, tearing my hair out at the moment as 10 email accounts not working.

@jacom3 PN are the registrar, they are NOT the owner, you are. The email should go to the contact email for the domain. However , in your case that's probably postmaster@<your old plusnet account> , so that's going to be bounced.

TBH , its unusual to require authorisation for the transfer, its usually just a matter of changing the IPSTAG, the fact that you have the ability to get the IPSTAG changed implies authority for the transfer.

You may have to resort to Nominet to get your domain transferred https://www.nominet.uk/transferring-your-domain-name/

Re: Transferring out a .co.uk domain name

@MisterW Thanks for the relpy. My problem is that as F9/PN closed my account, I don't have emails. I have been able to log into my Nominet account using Authenticator, but no domains are showing. I've raised a ticket with OVH, as it does seem odd requiring a code. Here is the email they sent (translated from french):

Cher/chère client(e),

We have received your request for the transfer of the domain jacom.co.uk, and we thank you for it.

However, you must provide a valid authorization code to complete this order.

If you do not have this code in your possession, please ensure that the transfer has been initiated with the outgoing registrar.

To do this, you must provide them with our identifier (TAG), which is "OVH-FR". Once this is done, the transfer authorization code will be automatically sent by OVHCloud to the email address of the current owner.

If you do not have control over the owner's email address, please make sure to change it with the outgoing provider before initiating this transfer.

Once you have the authorization code, you can complete the transfer process by logging into your manager: https://www.ovh.com/manager/web/#/configuration/domains_operations

If the order is not finalized within a maximum of 5 days from the date of sending this email, your transfer request will be canceled.

We remain at your disposal for any additional information.

Re: Transferring out a .co.uk domain name

@jacom3 really, Plusnet ought to be providing more assistance here, after all it was their mistake than closed the account.

I''ll try escalating this to get  one of the Help team to assist. However they're a bit thin on the ground during the weekend.

Re: Transferring out a .co.uk domain name

Hi @jacom3 I'm really sorry to hear this has happened.

It looks like we raised the request to transfer the domain on the 14th and the next step was with your new host to complete the transfer.

Have they managed to do this?

After the 3rd of November I will have a limited presence here as I have moved to a new role

Re: Transferring out a .co.uk domain name

@MatthewWheeler it would appear from @jacom3 s initial post that the new host sends an email to the domain contact address to confirm the transfer.

Problem is that the contact address will, if I'm not wrong, be postmaster@<plusnet account>.plus.com. That account is no longer active!! and so the email will be bounced.

Either the old email account needs resurrecting (probably not possible) or the contact email on the domain needs changing by PN to something that @jacom3 has access

Re: Transferring out a .co.uk domain name

Hi @MisterW & @MatthewWheeler , thank you for your help so far. No luck with OVH, so given up on them and have opened an account with Webhosting UK. The have given me the following IPS tag to give you "WEBHOSTINGUK". Hopefully it will be easier with a UK based outfit.

Re: Transferring out a .co.uk domain name

@jacom3 lets hope so. It should just be a matter of (in this case) Webhosting 'seeing' the change of IPSTAG to them and accepting the transfer as complete. I cant recall if the contact details for the domain will change automatically once the transfer is complete (I dont think they do) but I suggest you check and manually change it once its transferred.

@willcutforth Do you have any updates on this? As I don't have an account there is no way of seeing progress on the ticket.

We have initiated the transfer so everything needs to be done with the new registrar. Smiley
