What a great illustration of the reasons to NOT transfer to BT.
Incompetent offshore "support" was the very reason I left BT and came to Plusnet. Putting UK jobs offshore to people not capable of doing the job is not a great way to attract new users.

I would be VERY WARY of EVER talking to BT's Indian call centre !
On three occasions in the last decade, I've needed to report noisy phone line faults to BT on behalf of elderly relatives and neighbours, none of which had broadband. Each time after I reported PHONE faults as detailed on the BT website, within an hour, the reported telephone rang and a difficult to understand Indian voice claiming to be from "BT support", would tell the elderly person that "they were sorry that there is a fault" but it is being caused by the customer's computer being infected with a virus, and that they needed to switch on the computer and download a program to disinfect their machine. Of course, this caused much confusion and upset with the elderly person, as the 'support' caller didn't believe that they didn't own a computer. As far as I can tell, no bank or credit card details were compromised - although is hard to tell with old people sometimes.
My only conclusion is that this cannot be a coincidence, and that personal UK account information transferred to BT's Indian call centre appears to be immediately sold to (probably non BT) Indian scammers who take the opportunity of timing to take advantage of unsuspecting BT customers who are already expecting a call from BT support - making the scam less suspicious.

@Anonymous Ouch! Hopefully, BT are now aware of this not unexpected practice, and have taken robust steps to r-make sure it never happens again - but I doubt it.

John,
What are you smoking man?
BT fix India? The only way to avoid such issues is not to do business with companies who place personal data into overseas locations.

Sorry, @Townman - my mistake. 😉 . Although you would think that a fine, upstanding organisation such a BT PLC would make every possible effort to protect their customers - wouldn't you? 😎
