We've had an amazing response to this and it'll take a while to collate the applications etc. I'd expect we'll start to contact applicants within a fortnight or so. We'll hopefully be well up and running before the end of January barring no unforseen delays. As with anything 'in trial', I'd be rash to make any promises though.

There are no freebies from Plusnet.

So what's your definition of a freebie? As far as I can see there is no charge for this trial. That is all that is being offered at the moment, a trial. Later, there will be a product that one can choose to subscribe to.

You are some equipment which has to be returned.
That isn't a freebie.

But your use of the service during the trial is, and that is what this is all about. No one is expecting to be able to keep the box at the end of the trial if you choose not to continue and no one has claimed that you can.

Re: Get your names in quick - YouView Trials

On a prior trial (by YouView) I was given a box to use and a pair of homeplugs.
The only condition was that I used them and answered several surveys.
I was informed that they didn't want the used equipment returned and I was free to carry on using it.
Actually, I binned the Youview box because it was rubbish.
But I kept the home plugs.
At least it qualified as a freebie. Cheesy

Well that was a mistake, you could have sold it on eBay like many of the other people who had it on trail, I bought my box on eBay complete with home plugs and in my opinion was well worth it

Re: Get your names in quick - YouView Trials

Technically then it wasn't a freebie as you had to do some questionnaires which technically count as doing work for the company who provided you the Youview box.
I had a load of "free meals" from Little Chef which involved me filling out some simple forms rating the service / food etc. I think I had the worst service from any restaurant in one of them where they obviously were bored and decided to have a very rowdy game of football with some of the bread rolls while serving me below standard food. That was one of the very few times I didn't feel guilty giving a very honest and scathing review of a restaurant !

Re: Get your names in quick - YouView Trials

The Youview box had a longer boot time than Windows 3.1.
Presumably they've improved it??  Angry
Maybe I had a faulty box.
Customer service was non-existent.

Why are people obsessed with boot times on things like STBs? (same with BD players load times)
On PCs I can kind of understand it, though doesn't bother me personally, but on STBs and the like why does it matter if it takes 10 seconds or 2 minutes? Are people really in that much of a rush to watch TV?

Re: Get your names in quick - YouView Trials

From what I've read, the design of the Humax-made Youview boxes mean that you have a choice between taking 2 minutes to boot up with reasonable standby power consumption ("eco" mode), or normal boot up (e.g. like a Topfield PVR) but with ridiculously-high standby power consumption.
I can see why people would be a bit miffed with that.
