Re: Launch of Plusnet Assist

Hmmm... Hadn't spotted the system tray icon - just tried "System Details" and it reports in part:
Test 5: Detected Router: NA
Test 6: Windows wireless settings changed in the last 24hrs?: Yes
5 - NA = Not available?
6 - I haven't changed wireless settings since I don't have a wifi adaptor on this computer.

Re: Launch of Plusnet Assist

How do I uninstall Plusnet Assist from my Vista laptop  Angry
I seem to remember several weeks ago that there was an uninstall option "under start - all programs" but I clicked this and have still got PA running. All it seemed to do is uninstall the option Undecided
PA is not in "control panel - programmes and features" and I have ended the processes in Task Manager but when I reboot there it is again. Undecided
The reason I want to uninstall it is because it keeps telling me that I have an e-mail problem when I haven't and sometimes that I have an internet problem when I haven't. I dont trust it to reconfigure my machine because there are no configuration options and I have had the experience of it re-configuring my e-mail to a vanilla option  ignoring all my tweaks required to suit my family needs  Smiley

I also don't see why it reports my wireless signal strength is "quite weak" when I don't have a wireless adaptor on this computer at all. What does "quite weak" mean in this context?

This is a message we're looking to change.

Last point - I've just hit "Troubleshoot your email accounts" and it tells me I don't have any Plusnet user accounts!
I do - in Outlook Express - but they're all "hiding" behind various domain name addresses. Shouldn't the program be sufficiently intelligent to work this out?

No, it only recognises .plus.com addresses.

n/a = not applicable
not sure about 6, can only assume it's detected plusnet assist's wireless check.

Hi Peter,
If you really want to uninstall it I can help you do that.

Alternatively you could disable it from the startup tab using msconfig which should stop it from running when your machine is booted up. The process is called btbb_McciTrayApp.

Thanks JoJo and Bob
Bob if I prevent it booting up at startup does that mean I can start and stop it at any time?  Smiley

Re: Launch of Plusnet Assist

Thank you for the points of mine you answered.
In respect of a "Not applicable" router - is this like the fact it only apparently recognises root Plusnet email addresses - i.e. because I don't have a Plusnet router (it's actually a Vigor2600VG) it doesn't think I've got one at all?
It does appear that Plusnet Assist is only really intended for very basic installations without any customisation. Ultimately I'm not sure what I'll use it for.

Re: Launch of Plusnet Assist

Hi drj,
It is really intended for basic users with not the greatest technical knowledge. If it doesn't recognise the router it will still give basic connectivity checks, although if it is a router we support it can give more detail.

Yep, that's what I've done because I don't really need it running all the time but like it installed in case I ever need to replicate any issues that customers report.

Re: Launch of Plusnet Assist

I have re-installed after making sure java script was enabled, but the program still refuses to open  Undecided
Anymore ideas ?
Bye the way i found that it uninstalls easier if you disconnect from the internet while you do it, i go into the control panel and uninstall a program.  Smiley
