If I try a product change, I don't seem to be able to alter what I'm offered.
Already on Extra Fibre and on the 80/20 trial. Does that imply an automatic upgrade to the new package?
I'm guessing I have to do something otherwise I'll be put back to 40

Hmmm, taking a look into this now. I know it's been possible for others though Huh

This is the problem. From here:
[quote author="BT Wholesale Availability Checker"]Your cabinet is planned to have WBC FTTC by 30th September 2012. Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 72.1Mbps and upstream line speed of 20Mbps.
Notice anything slightly contradictory in that statement? It's confusing our account change logic. We can change your account manually for you if needs be?

Hmmm. The BT checker has been like that, on-and-off, since FTTC was available for my locality. Nice work spotting that one though!
On the basis that date will just slip and slip, if you can do a manual change I'd appreciate it.

Re: Launch of new Plusnet Fibre Products - 80/20 and 250GB usage allowance

I would be intrigued to see whether a move from the trial to the official 80/20 product through the standard link causes a DLM reset. That could increase speeds for some, at least for a while.

Re: Launch of new Plusnet Fibre Products - 80/20 and 250GB usage allowance

@KevinG
I have the following two tickets on my account following an account change this morning (trial --> Extra Fibre), which seem to suggest PN have sent the order anyway as the system is assuming I'm on 40/2. Whether the order will be rejected by BT because our line is already provisioned on 80/20 or not remains to be seen.

No it shoudn't do. If the system generates a modify order it will fail because none of your line characteristics will be changing.

Thanks Bob, that makes sense. Not really an issue for me at the moment as I'm almost at the fastest I've ever had.

Re: Launch of new Plusnet Fibre Products - 80/20 and 250GB usage allowance

Looking at the new products it does seem a bit odd that Value Fibre customers, for the same price, get an increase in upload speeds but no extra usage allowance, whereas Extra Fibre customers get an increase in download and upload speeds and a more than doubled usage allowance for £1.50/month less. An increase to 80GB for Value Fibre would have balanced things a bit.

Re: Launch of new Plusnet Fibre Products - 80/20 and 250GB usage allowance

Existing Extra Fibre customers get the upload uplift too (assuming they don't move to the new 76Mbps Extra Fibre product of course).
If we increased Value usage then I'd imagine we'd see a decrease in the number of customers converting to Extra. There's only £3.50 in it and anyone wanting more usage is welcome to upgrade. Don't forget too that Value customers get their speed uplift automatically whereas Extra customers need to pro-actively request the change to the new product. With the exception of the 80/20 trialists, Extra customers are also re-contracted when they're switched across.

Re: Launch of new Plusnet Fibre Products - 80/20 and 250GB usage allowance

Done mine - too good not to!  After the end of this charging period I can probably let the kids do what they want (streaming) without having to keep nagging at them not to 'waste the bandwidth'.
Do I need to do anything (as an 80/20 trialist) to avoid being re-contracted (not that I'm looking at moving anyway with such a good product enhancement)?

Bob,
I little clarity required.
I think that this is the situation - please correct me if I am wrong

When will I get my free upload speed increase?
We’ll be increasing all existing fibre customers’ upload speed from 1.9Mbps to up to 9.5Mbps for free. The upgrades will happen over several weeks beginning 14th September.

No. The upgrade journey will assume you're re-contracting but we'll be running reports here to adjust the contracts on 80/20 trialists once they're moved across.

@Oldjim
All fibre customers will have their upload increased to 'up to 9.5Mbps' without having to do anything. Old Extra Fibre customers wanting to move to the new Extra Fibre product (with 'up to 76Mbps' speeds and 250GB usage) need to request the change via our website and re-contract (unless an 80/20 trialist).

Re: Launch of new Plusnet Fibre Products - 80/20 and 250GB usage allowance

Hi. Looks like it might be time to get serious about swapping to fibre.
Just one question. The line checker says I will get an estimated speed of 33.1 Mb/s. Does the 76 Mb speed require additional infrastructure changes to support it? Just wondering if that is the max speed, or if a change at the exchange will enable 76 Mb at some point in the future.
Cheers!

Re: Launch of new Plusnet Fibre Products - 80/20 and 250GB usage allowance

The speed you will get is dependent on the line length from you to the cab - you have to be fairly close to get the maximum speed

Re: Launch of new Plusnet Fibre Products - 80/20 and 250GB usage allowance

Almost completed the request to switch to the new fibre extra from the old. However I am a phone customer of yours and took advantage of the pay the line rental upfront for 12 months. My old products listed
Quote
Line rental £0.00

while the new says
Quote
Line rental £12.99

Can we assume the system is clever enough to realise the line rental is already paid for or am I going to get charged a 2nd time?
Also being a trialist on the 80/20 system your speed estimations are very optimistic. 61/20 estimated, I struggle at around 50/10.
