Re: Launch of new Plusnet Fibre Products - 80/20 and 250GB usage allowance

We're on the 80/20 trial, and the upgrade is obviously a no-brainer - even though my feedback indicated that the *feel* of 80Mb downstream wasn't much more than the feel of 40Mb (but 20 upstream *was* noticeable).
The obvious question to me - that hasn't really been answered is: What's happening to the speed restrictions for the Fibre-Extra package? The speed limits are described on this page. The total of the current speed restrictions during the afternoon (of everything that is limited) is 49Mbps - way slower than the line will allow. Some of these limits are beginning to look like the dark ages - and I'm not even thinking of the P2P-type stuff! 5Mbps on gaming and VPN!!!
Chris told us this...

Have you tried without Pro recently? The rate limits aren't low as the download speed page says they are as we've relaxed them over time, we'll be updating the page very shortly to show what we actually do now.

... and I'd be expecting them to be better than doubled...  Cool

Oh... and is the Technicolor better than the ZyXel? I hated the ZyXel.

Re: Launch of new Plusnet Fibre Products - 80/20 and 250GB usage allowance

I too have signed up following the trial but just checked my account and can't see that I have been put on the new service?
This is despite me receiving the new modem today, which is a bit strange.
I've asked a question via the help section Question #58903909
Can someone have a quick look for me?
Thanks

I wasn't expecting to see anything change on my account until my billing date. By "new modem" I hope you mean "new router."

See here.

That suggests that the principle of management of Fibre-Extra is getting back to something similar to plain Extra, which is to be welcomed. The principle of lots of restrictions during daytimes was always just a touch worrying.
Does it also mean that HTTP "download" from "Download Sites" (including caches such as akamai) is also going to be de-restricted too? If so, that's particularly good news for the browsing experience for those sites who have offloaded their content onto the caches.

I did see that, honest! But it appears to deal with P2P and Usenet only, and not the other protocols.

Re: Launch of new Plusnet Fibre Products - 80/20 and 250GB usage allowance

As far as fibre products are concerned I think it was said that only P2P, Usenet and external FTP are now rate limited in the busy period after 8pm - though prioritisation always applies. So download sites and servers are not rate limited apart from any impact from their traffic classification (Titanium, Gold, Silver, etc). The Pro add-on is, of course, available for those who find the P2P etc rate limits and prioritisation inconvenient.
Hopefully the updated expected speeds pages will soon be published.

Re: Launch of new Plusnet Fibre Products - 80/20 and 250GB usage allowance

I've just upgraded.
The result still shows that the Line Rental has also changed from £0.00 to £12.99, and gives a new, high, monthly total... which I know is an artefact of the system, but it is still disconcerting anyway!

Re: Launch of new Plusnet Fibre Products - 80/20 and 250GB usage allowance

I've been having awful trouble with my laptop for the last couple of weeks since the 80/20 trial ended and wasn't able to follow the posts on the forum. I saw the email saying about getting 250Gb/month without a renewed contract for people like me who were part of the trial.
I did change to Plusnet Extra Fibre with included 120GB bandwidth at the start of the trial and thought that I'd start with the new contract automatically at my next billing date which was yesterday - 18th August. When I followed this thread, I realised that maybe I should have upgraded to get the 250Gb plan so I went to have a look and when I press the upgrade button it says that I can change to Plusnet Extra Fibre with 250GB useage allowance. Do I actually have to press this button to get the new service? If so, it was very confusing to change from plusnet extra fibre to plusnet extra fibre!! So.
1. Do I need to press the upgrade button even though I was on the trial & it's not automatic as I thought.
2. Do I also really need to wait a whole extra month now because I assumed that the change was automatic for 80/20 triallists?
Sorry for the questions - I just find it a tad confusing. Smiley

OK - Thanks. I've gone ahead & kept my old phone package which is paid for up-front. Hopefully, I won't be charged again.
