Re: Peak time latency spikes

It's not the average I'm worried about, it's the spikes that ruin the ability to use any sort of online games.  I am on there now and the lag is horrible

Re: Peak time latency spikes

I've noticed that pages are taking an age to load, and speedtest confirms something not right tonight:

On gateway ptw-ag04.
$ traceroute bbc.co.uk
traceroute to bbc.co.uk (212.58.241.131), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets
1  dsldevice.lan (192.168.1.254)  56.892 ms  56.802 ms  56.758 ms
2  lo0-central10.ptw-ag04.plus.net (195.166.128.194)  29.984 ms  29.967 ms  29.947 ms
3  link14-central10.ptw-gw02.plus.net (84.93.248.122)  29.866 ms  29.861 ms  29.850 ms
4  xe-10-0-0.ptw-cr02.plus.net (212.159.1.42)  29.742 ms  29.754 ms  29.753 ms
5  ae2.ptw-cr01.plus.net (195.166.129.4)  51.106 ms  51.056 ms  51.041 ms
6  kingston-gw.thdo.bbc.co.uk (212.58.239.6)  29.610 ms  21.890 ms  21.858 ms
7  * * *
8  ae1.er01.rbsov.bbc.co.uk (132.185.254.46)  26.379 ms  26.314 ms  26.366 ms
9  132.185.255.60 (132.185.255.60)  29.116 ms  29.125 ms  24.477 ms
10  virtual-vip.thdo.bbc.co.uk (212.58.241.131)  24.378 ms  24.381 ms  23.805 ms
All seems fine, except for that bolded route, which is slower than the rest (dsldevice.lan always swings between 50-90ms without any ill effects).

The TBB graph you linked shows a stable minimum latency circa 40ms. Your recent ping test shows 21ms. Such a big change from a gateway hop is unusual.

If the line was previously NOT interleaved and showing pings of 21ms, it says here that a fault ticket has been raised - which I believe automatically switches interleaving ON, which would explain the step change in ping times.

I'm still having nightly issues at peak time!

ag04 seems like a good one atm

If you're referring to pcl-ag04, that's the one I finally settled on, not 100% but a lot better than the others I have seen in the last half an hour or so.

Re: Peak time latency spikes

Joopzer is on ptw-ag04, see his later post.
@purleigh, no, it was his ping test just now after he hopped gateway that gave 21ms. I thought the same as you until I saw his latest post just before I posted, that's why I'm keen to see a recent TBB

Re: Peak time latency spikes

@Purleigh - My line has been interleaved since I signed up - this is related to the peak issue.

Re: Peak time latency spikes

Well it wasn't when you posted stats in your fault thread on the 25th because FEC errors were zero. Could you post some updated stats on that thread? And I'm surprised  if you could get pings of 21/26 with interleaving on!

Re: Peak time latency spikes

@Anotherone - I'll post all stats whgen I'm done on the xbox - lag is really bad tonight when gaming so I'll be interested to see if that's reflected in the graph.
I'm sure interleaving was on as on my router after I joined PN it always said interleaved path - is that the same?

Re: Peak time latency spikes

Thats a great question purleigh, hopefully we will get an answer from PN.
Seems like we are just keep posting low speeds, high pings etc.... for days on end, but nothing is improving.
What are PN actively doing (apart from collecting data) to resolve this and is there any rough time scale for a fix ?

Mike

Re: Peak time latency spikes

With any luck a solution will be found to end all the high latency problems .
