I assume the Net is still horribly slow for everyone else?

No problem here. Have you tried changing gateways (again!)? I've been on ptn-ag04 for a few days and it's been perfect.

Re: Peak time latency spikes

Ah, sorry buddy but I'm not sure how to change gateways. Is it to do with a setting in the Thomson Gateway page? Resetting the router?

Re: Peak time latency spikes

@cihan
Log into the management page of the router. Under "Broadband Connection" click the Disconnect button. Then click "Connect" to re-connect. Which gateway you end up on is a bit of a lottery, but you can check your gateway here.
EDIT: corrected typo

Re: Peak time latency spikes

@WendyDavies
Your pings seem pretty horrible at all hours of the day. So yes, raising a fault seems like the best option - it looks like something different from/in addition to this problem! Good luck Smiley

Re: Peak time latency spikes

Thanks, Hopefully its an easy fix, we have had tests done recently for the wires and exchange and found nothing wrong.

Hi WendyDavies,
Are you still experiencing this issue right now? If so could you run a wireshark so we can look at the traffic on your line? I'll make sure we pick your fault ticket up too.

Re: Peak time latency spikes

I'm also on PCL-AG08 and speeds this evening are fine.
@WendyDavies - could you try a "proper" ping from a Command Prompt? The one from speedtest.net can't really be relied on, although yours appears to be consistently awful...
If you're on XP, click Start, then Run, then type CMD and click OK. If you are on Vista or 7, click on Start and type CMD in the Search programs and files box. In Windows 8 you need to bring up the Search box and type CMD in there. Once you have the Command Window open, a simple ping can be done by typing the following at the cursor:
ping ntp.plus.net
and press enter.
This is what I get:
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.2.9200]
(c) 2012 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
C:\Users\Brian>ping ntp.plus.net
Pinging ntp.plus.net [212.159.6.9] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 212.159.6.9: bytes=32 time=67ms TTL=250
Reply from 212.159.6.9: bytes=32 time=49ms TTL=250
Reply from 212.159.6.9: bytes=32 time=50ms TTL=250
Reply from 212.159.6.9: bytes=32 time=50ms TTL=250
Ping statistics for 212.159.6.9:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 49ms, Maximum = 67ms, Average = 54ms
Not brilliant, but my pings are generally in the high 40s to low 50s and as I don't game its fine. Web pages are responsive, and streaming video works fine (touch wood!)

Re: Peak time latency spikes

@WendyDavies - you're averaging 28ms there - nothing wrong with that!

A very appropriate typo  Grin

Which suggests something on your PC might be responsible for that... Firewall? Anti-virus? Adobe Flash?

For the download test, you could try downloading one of the large files from this TBB page and timing it. Ideally with a download manager that runs several threads in parallel to maximise throughput. That would eliminate the possibility of a problem with Flash (which is used for the BTW, Speedtest.net and TBB throughput testers).
