Quote from: Gel Useful but for BBYW Opt 1, it's taken data from Plus Net www, wrongly showing monthly allowance as 2 not 10gb, which was introduced last year I recall.
The information built into the Product Comparison Tool comes from Plusnet's BBYW product archive and that says 2GB is the monthly allowance for BBYW Option 1. I'm aware that Plusnet increased it to 10GB but their published information still says 2GB.

I assume you are on a Market 1 exchange based on the prices you mentioned with current subscription £22.99. You can compare the new Unlimited with Plusnet Pro side by side using the Usergroup Product Comparison Tool.
As you'll see with Unlimited some protocols, P2P/Usenet in particular, are in a lower priority queue than with Pro but still delivered at line speed all day (and night) if that's all you are doing. The blog mentioned by Oldjim explains well the QoS reason for prioritisation and what it provides.
In my opinion changing to the new product *is* a no-brainer and I suggest taking the contract option unless you expect to migrate from Plusnet within 9 months. After that the cancellation charge (£5.50 per month) is less than you've saved.
Thanks for the reply, i had not come across the comparison tool and yes i am on Market 1 paying £19.99 per mth after looking and comparing i will take your advice and switch,
Happy Christmas to All

I'm very glad I moved from Virgin to Plusnet - I don't download a lot but I like to know when I do need it I'm not slowed down a lot. That and the fact the CS is great, Plusnet is definitely the number 1 provider at the moment.

To be honest I never got anywhere near 100 GB a month but it's good not to have to check all the time, and now I feel the connection is future-proof with my increasing use of iCloud.
A big thank you to Plusnet!

I haven't received a confirmation email about the upgrade yet, but shows up in the Account Summary screen that I've ordered it.

Please could someone just confirm these points for me before I jump though.
I am currently on the package "Extra with included 60GB bandwidth", ADSL2+ and always connect at about 21Mbps (currently reported at 20459 kbps upstream, 1047 kbps downstream). At this very moment I'm downloading at a nice 2.1MB/s on usenet. It's nice being close to the exchange!
I would change to the "Unlimited ADSL2+" package, market 3, at £9.99.
My query points:
1. I should still be able to connect at the same 21Mbps speed after the upgrade, despite the "up to 16Mbps" label now on the package.
2. The new traffic management will allow full line speed for any type of connection I make regardless of the time of day, unless I use a higher-priority connection at the same time. So, I could get line speed P2P or Usenet all day, until my wife starts using iPlayer.
3. My block of eight static IP addresses will not change. (I'm very attached to them)
Are those assumptions correct?
If so, I'll change ASAP. There's no way I really need any more speed or data for my downloading than I already get overnight. It will be nice though not having to keep an eye on my wife's iPlayer usage or worry if my overnight scheduler will break (again!) and use up all my 60GB allowance in one morning.

#2 Yes, your interpretation of traffic management effects is correct. iPlayer should perform well alongside a P2P/Usenet download taking what bandwidth it needs with the download using all that's left. Dave Tomlinson's blog It's Unlimited! Why is it still traffic managed? explains the effects well.
#3 Is a tricky one. According to the FAQ question I have a static IP address, will I keep this if I request an account change? the answer is Yes, although in a small number of cases we will need to assign you a new IP address. (That's for one IP, I know you have a block.) So you should keep your IPs but might not. Perhaps best if Plusnet staff pick that one up on Monday.

@LordFox
Just to echo spraxyt I moved across to Fibre Unlimited on Friday and have been testing it since. I can confirm that I haven't seen any sort of slow down. Just at the moment for example I am downloading from Usenet at my line speed of about 6.5 MB/s.
Looks to be a top quality product to me. My thanks to PlusNET for introducing it 🙂

(I'm asking because wireshark can't always be used, such as for sniffing packets for other devices on my switched ethernet LAN, and the 'Usage breakdown' has been useful in identifying how some traffic is prioritized)
