You can get pretty tired counting 5p coins.

Damn stupid and unjustfied. Charge the people who's payment fails not everybody.
Quote from: Bob
It depends on the card but it's around the 35-40p mark I think. It isn't about just the cost of a single transaction though. The failure rate of taking payments by card is more than ten times what it is on Direct Debit. This means the transactions need resubmitting. This increases the cost of processing, and also the man hours resubmitting payments/chasing customers for failed payments. One thing I don't think I've mentioned yet is the amount of 'chargebacks' we get from customers paying by card. Again, it's significantly higher when compared to Direct Debit payers (of which there are far more) and each card chargeback costs us about a fiver. The surcharge we've introduced is intended to help cover the *cumulative* costs of the credit card payments we process.

To a limited extent, even I have a little sympathy with that argument, but also would like to see customers with multi-delinquencies treated more severely than may be they are now. And from my work time experience (bank and IR) the same names keep appearing.

Quote from: glloyd So what you are saying is we (card payers) that do not cause you any extra expense are paying for those who do. How can that be justified? So the bloke next door gets done for speeding and I have to pay half his fine
Unfortunately that’s what happens with uninsured drivers. They crash and WE PAY for it, through higher premiums - causing more uninsured drivers

Quote from: Lolaan I am still NOT CONVINCED that it costs that amount to pay with a card.
The cost of the transaction itself doesn't cost that much as I've explained elsewhere.
Quote from: Lolaan I saw an interesting notice at my local newsagents, it says :
Charges for payment with debit card : £0.50
Charges for payments with credit card : £1.50
So, it seems that the charge for debit card payments of £1.50 is definitively a money making rip off, after all........
I think I'm going to expand the FAQ to clarify this point as people keep on overlooking the fact that *debit cards cannot be used to pay for your recurring monthly subscription!* (we used to offer this option however it was removed some time ago).
Is anyone paying their subscription using debit card at the moment? (because AIUI they shouldn't be).
Based on the above, the charge is only going to be applicable to those that pay using Credit Card (and one-off transactions are exempt as mentioned previously).
Quote from: thisoldman Jamie Ford told the yorkshire post in an interview that the recent tv advert campaign cost 7 miilion.
Whether that's true or not, it's completely off topic. Can we keep to the subject matter being discussed please?
Edit: some debit cards *can* be used. See the post here for clarification on what debit cards can/can't be used for recurring subscription payments.

What have Plusnet done with delinquent payers up til now?
Do they just keep applying for payment, and not charge the delinquents any extra?
I've been with Plusnet since 2003, have always paid by card, and never missed a payment.
The Plusnet service has been OK, but I have been let down on house moves, when Plusnet have made mistakes.
I'm not happy about the extra charge for Credit Cards because at least with C/Cards you get a few weeks notice to sort it out if Plusnet makes a mistake.
Apparently, Plusnet give you 3 days notice before they help themselves to your bank account.
If they increased this to 10 working days I might agree to a Direct Debit, but not now.
My loyalty to Plusnet has evaporated

Edit: OK hands up, I made a mistake with that one The debit cards that can't be used for recurring payments are Maestro & Solo, Visa cards are fine.

I signed up for a deal which PN walked away from. Now PN want to charge me to decline their new version of the deal which I don't want. I don't think there's a court in the land which will go along with that and I look forward to the challenge. Unfair contract terms and all that. If anyone does manage to get any sense out of PN regarding cancellations, please let me know.
