Website and Internal System Issues today

Re: Website and Internal System Issues today

Well according to my view I have no "Site Links" or "Related Links" and only a single entry in the "Community Apps" for the Open Source Apps page as you can see below.
Assuming we are referring to the same page.

They've switched off the server to see what the uproar is and if they can get away with dropping another service to save a few quid.

It's not getting switched off  Roll_eyes
Some of the software used to run certain areas of the community needs upgrading. It's as simple as that.
Work is continuing as we speak.

The software suddenly needed an emergency upgrade. Shocked

Re: Website and Internal System Issues today

I have no Site Links or Related Links either, must be because of the rest of Community being down.

Re: Website and Internal System Issues today

We want to upgrade it to a newer version.
@Anotherone - This applies to the Community Library too, it looks like the holding page hasn't been applied to that section for one reason or another. We're hoping to have this done as soon as possible though.

I seem to have lost something here, namely the plot. What is it exactly you are upgrading?

Re: Website and Internal System Issues today

Thanks Chris for your post and info. Having done some digging, I've noted that only one of the servers is up and running -  212.159.9.110. The other has a holding page which would probably explain all the other missing bits.

Re: Website and Internal System Issues today

I may regret this post but why does it take so long to upgrade some software? In my opinion this should be done with minimal downtime, having first implemented the new software on a staging platform, tested it then migrate it in to production when all of the test have been done. To be fair I don't (think) I use the Community offerings, but all the same this is a lot of down time which leads me to think ... No, I'll leave it at that.

I'm currently using 212.159.8.110 for the forums, seems to be up.

Re: Website and Internal System Issues today

Please explain why the software suddenly needed upgrading with no prior notice.
Looking at Thursday's service status announcements:

We're currently experiencing some issues with access to our website.
Our engineers are currently investigating the issue and we'll post again as soon as we have an update.

Due to emergency maintenance we have had to put holding pages on most of our community site
You can still access the community forums at http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php
These holding pages will be in place until tomorrow and we will aim to provide an update by midday. Apologies for any inconvenience
Note that these have the same problem id and so are related.
I think it's highly likely that Plusnet's failure to keep the software updated with the latest security fixes has bit them on the bum yet again. Something obviously happened and now they are updating in a panic.

Re: Website and Internal System Issues today

How very odd ejs, I'll dig some more, as you can see I'm using the other one! It might depend on which Hostlink one is on, or which Data Centre you end up at.
Updating some of this stuff is tricky because of the "customised bits" where there is a bit of an interface with broadband accounts to verify a user (in simple terms).

Seems likely. I'd hate to think what version of Wordpress was running, along with the 7 year old forum software.
