Is it possible to have an animated gif as an avatar? I passed my stock avatar which is an animated gif , but it changed it to PNG, and is a really bad photo of me

I don't know what is possible on this forum but I have seen it possible on another forum. I found it so irritating I had to disable animation in my browser. I was not alone and following protests from many members it was removed,

Your image is too big - that's why it was converted. See http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,218.0.html#post_avatar
There are users on here with animated gifs as avatars (see this post: http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,103173.0.html)

I totally agree...
I also have this problem on other website forums where it is not possible to remove the offending animation from my subscription.
As a result whenever these animations appear, I have to close the site before I go insane
