Re: Appear to have a new name and all my old posts have vanished...

IIRC you'll need to click on the Reset your password. You'll get prompted for the forum username (not display name of old) or associated email address - probably best to use the latter. You should then get an email, click on the link in the email and it should take you to where you can redo your password (old one will do). After that IIRC you are logged in. HTH (and I hope I got it right).

Re: Appear to have a new name and all my old posts have vanished...

Odd that, I'm not prompted for a username but my email address.

How do I get to a page that asks for a username? I appear to be missing something here!

Just read a post about 'forced username change' which has a dimension to this I really haven't understood, and certainly wasn't made apparent from the simple 'reset password' page where this all started.

Edit - still no reply to the reset using my orig email address, I guess I give up on that

Re: Appear to have a new name and all my old posts have vanished...

Sorry if I didn't make that clear, it's getting late. Use your email address which is registered to the correct forum login name that's associated with the correct display name. If the login name and the old display name are the same, there shouldn't be a problem.  When you get in it'll display the original login name, which if you want you can change - but make sure it's right first, correct number of posts etc.

Re: Appear to have a new name and all my old posts have vanished...

Ok, I get that now. Thanks for your help.

At the moment I can't get past waiting for a reply email after clicking reset.

Using the PlusNet email in the first instance got me a new newbie name.

Using my own orig email (to which I got notifications, and a recent mail from PN) has resulted in no reply.

Hoping Harry will get back on this.

Also, not sure where 'ians' comes from - this was not my previous display name!

Re: Appear to have a new name and all my old posts have vanished...

After 18 replies here this user seems no nearer getting access to the expected migrated user account. I assume the response from @HarryB has not been followed up. @PlusnetLiam  and @LouisaMartin is no one able to help?

I believe the email specific issues are being looked at by @bobpullen

Harry mentioned that some of those experiencing difficulties with this are using their own domain email addresses. Don't know why this might be. Odd that there's been no reply at all. Its over 48 hours since first sending reset.

Re: Appear to have a new name and all my old posts have vanished...

Explains why PlusNet can send me an email but Lithium can't.

But the plot thickens. Just noticed something. The profile for 'ians2' says registered May 2012... Eh?

IanSn (me) actually registered early 2011. So where does that date come from? Its certainly not the date that 'ians2' was created. So what/who is it referring to?

Now your guess is likely to be far better than mine Crazy

I believe the 2 on the end of your name will have been caused in a similar problem to this: https://community.plus.net/t5/Community-Site-Feedback/Community-Username-Changed/m-p/1323691#M7768

In regards to getting your account back in the meantime, I'll drop you a message when I get to the office later.

Re: Appear to have a new name and all my old posts have vanished...

Just to be clear about that.

I understand getting a 1 or a 2 appended to a display name, but my old display name was not 'ians'. It was iansn. (Or IanSn if case matters.)

Re: Appear to have a new name and all my old posts have vanished...

This might simply be a question of terminology but on the old forum display name (seen by other members) and forum username (used to login) could be different. On the new forum only one name - the username - exists.

Clearly this is immaterial if username and display name were identical on the old forum. However the identities migrated to the new forum were usernames.

Re: Appear to have a new name and all my old posts have vanished...

Fix

Display names are irrelevant as they were not migrated, usernames were migrated. While I appreciate this still doesn't give a solid answer on how it ended up ians2 I can only really take a guess at what may have caused it to happen like that. My guess would be the duplicate users didn't take numbers in to account in usernames when adding 1, 2 etc. to the end of duplicates.

If you'd like to temporarily change the email address on your Plusnet account to something that doesn't use your own domain (Since this appears to be affecting your password reset emails) and I'll change the email on your old forum account to match. If you'd be happy to proceed this way, could you drop me a PM when you've updated the Plusnet account.

Thanks.
