Just what I was about to say.
Note:
There's a button to report the issue to mozilla on the error page. Looks like it's their problem rather than Lithiums.

Getting the problem repeatedly this morning. Doing a 'tidy up' on Subscriptions, tick a few boxes, select the option to 'delete selected.....' BANG! Retry the page load usually fails on first attempt, but succeeds on 2nd or third attempt? Repeated after selecting a few more Subscriptions to delete.

We have Lithium engineers looking into this so hopefully we will get this resolved soon. We have referenced this thread in the support ticket so your feedback is greatly appreciated and useful.
Apologies if this is causing an inconvenience. Hopefully I can get some answers soon and I will update you all when a fix has been rolled out.
@Anotherone, this has nothing to do with the fixes we rolled out last week for the javascript issues related to Google Analytics.

Just to add my voice, I've also seen the secure connection failed error. Mainly using Firefox on my Android tablet.

Are you using Firefox @MauriceC ?
Lithium can't replicate the issue and when I've looked through the feed, everyone seems to be using Firefox/Mozilla and as @npr has suggested, it looks like they have an issue.
@jaread83 @bobpullen are you using this too?

I'm using a variety of Firefox versions (including v46), on Ubuntu (Maverick, Trusty, Wily, and Xenial), and NOT seeing the authentication errors described in this topic.
Maybe this is a WIndows+Firefox thing ?

Thanks for the update: FF46.0.1 is Beta RC1 currently so I'll wait a day or so.

I've updated to Firefox 46.0.1, I'll report back if that stops the error.
Update: No, still getting this error.

But have Lithium tried while using Firefox v46 ?
IMO, they could at least confirm if the issue is with FF 46.
I've reverted back to Firefox v45.0.1.
Again, I'll report back if / when I get this authentication error.
UPDATE:
Now made 5 posts using FF 45.0.1 with no errors.

This evening I was looking at a five year old PC which happens to have Firefox 11.0, and wondered how that would cope with this modern forum coding. Surprisingly it wasn't too bad.
While 'playing', I managed to get the following error at the moment that I selected [Thread Options] > [Subscribe]
As a secondary problem, I clicked on the "Return to my original page" link, and it dumped me to a different topic than the one that I was trying to subscribe to !. That different topic was the one that I had been reading and posting in PREVIOUS to the one I had just been in.

Thanks for the info. Lithium engineers are investigating and this thread has been referenced when they asked me for examples. This feedback will help them figure out what's going on.
PS when you clicked the 'go back to previous page' the system will remember the last URL you were on and dump you back there. Now while testing I found that if I open two tabs to be in different places for example tab 1 = forum page, tab 2 = thread within feedback (this one being the last one I opened) and then on tab 1 something went wrong and I get that error.. when I click the 'go back to previous page' button it actually remembered the last page I visited which was actually the url on tab 2.

Just had another authentication error @09:47 in WinXP; FF46.0.1. Marked a few subscriptions to be deleted and selected 'delete all marked' got the error.
EDIT: Worked after a retry
EDIT2: Repeated the activity an hour later to remove a few more subscriptions - got the error, but this time took two retries to work.
