Re: Colours are terrible.

Just want to add my support for making the pink link colour darker please - I dont want to have to adjust my monitor settings just for this site and then back again after each visit.
Thanks

We're currently working on alternative themes for the site and will show them up just as soon as we can...

Re: Colours are terrible.

Another vote!
Magenta on white is not a colour mix most developers would use for website text. It also may be problematic for those with colour discrimination problems or deficient eyesight. So why use it for the Subject text - which is, after all, what readers scan first on each page

Re: Colours are terrible.

I've had to resort to employing the Stylish add-on in Firefox to revert the colours to a standard black on white.

Re: Colours are terrible.

I've finally figured out THE problem with this colour scheme - there's just far too much white!

Re: Colours are terrible.

If anyone has any 'quick win' suggestions, as well as the new themes, please do shout up.
Personally speaking my design skills are the worst in the world, but I agree that it's the amount of white makes things seem too bright, and I think if there was a quick answer to that we could perhaps just do it, as I can't see anyone objecting if a minor change for a positive impact.

Re: Colours are terrible.

How about something simple, like a light purple border to separate the posts from the outside whiteness?

Re: Colours are terrible.

I've managed to improve things a little by playing about with the background colour settings in Firefox. At the moment, I've got a broad mid-grey border effect around the forum posts. Although not a perfect solution, it definitely improves matters.

Re: Colours are terrible.

I've just done the same, set the background to grey and it definitely improves it.

Re: Colours are terrible.

In an effort to contribute something useful (well I have to at some point otherwise I wouldnt be know ans unpredictable).

People can try this..
http://www.smfhacks.com/smf-theme-generator.html
People can mess about with the colour codes then post up the list of what they feel may work.
If any particular scheme seems to be popular or accepted then it should be a quick fix for the admins to implement said scheme by copying the numbers.
Just need to find a theme generator with a preview option so its easy to see the style before implementing
Hope that helps  Smiley

Re: Colours are terrible.

Well having used the forums on a laptop for the first time I know what people mean about the whites blending in between posts, can't tell the difference.
Still use a CRT at work, we have loads of them about in the office - so don't notice it there.
Main gripe for me is the icons for the message/thread status (e.g. new messages/no new messages/sticky thread, etc) all look too similar .. the main problem is when scanning threads for new posts .. it takes me some time to tell the difference. Could use the 'Show posts since last visit' I suppose, but from the old forums I was used to just scanning the icons .. and unlike the current ones, they were very clear on the old boards.
I'm not that familiar with SMF, more so with phpBB .. but don't find it too bad to use. At least it's nothing as bad as ADSL Guide (if that's possible).
Look forward to some new themes Wink
