What I would say though, is it so bad when people show a little individuality?
If the forum was just all text.. well it would just be dull.

Quote from: artmo I'm with those who have suggested text only signatures. I really don't see why it is necessary to use speedtest results as signatures unless the topic is discussing a speed issue.
Even then it is not necessary to put them in a signature, they can either be embedded in the post or attached.

I agree with the sentiment. And I think the current rules on signatures are fine - they strike a good middle-ground. The idea of having person x's signature show only the first time person x posts in a given thread is a good one too. Personally, I don't like the look of the Speed Test images some people include in their signatures - too dark, and not showing any individuality/creativity, just imagified text. Though I wouldn't want to prohibit them, so the sig-once-per-thread idea would help.

And also if everyone agreed with each other.

Agree completely - A speed test result is only relevant in a thread discussing a speed issue and, in order to be useful, needs to be up to date. Adding an out of date speed test result to a post about hosting issues or the price of fish (for instance) is wasting space...
A vote from me for text only signatures, or even none at all!

At any given moment in the universe many things happen. Coincidence is a matter of how close these events are in space, time and relationship.
Opinions expressed in forum posts are those of the poster, others may have different views.

Keep your signatures short. You may sign your posts with information about yourself, which may include things like a quote from a favourite author, for example.
Please remember that the other community forums terms of use and guidelines apply to signatures as well. Please take specific note that signatures should not include any of the following inappropriate content: Profanity; material that is libellous, fraudulent, unlawful, defamatory, pornographic, obscene, profane, abusive, offensive, threatening, hateful, or otherwise objectionable.
The BTCare Community moderators reserve the right to edit or delete any signatures we deem inappropriate for the forum. Signatures are a privilege and violations of the guidelines outlined here can result in this privilege being revoked.

Quote from: DomS Oh and the forum I help moderate has the option to only show the signatures the first time a user posts in a thread. Subsequent posts have the signature hidden.
I actually thought of suggesting this - a very good idea (if the 'forum software' can accommodate it).
+1.
Trouble is that I don't see PN upgrading this dinosaur of a forum to make that a reality.
I have little problem with the current rule but those putting speed test results in their signature don't normally have any control over the size of it. Considering this is an ISP forum I think it's daft to then insist that they remove it.
In life we all have to give and take a little here and there. It would be nice if this could be applied to some of the forum rules every now and then.

Quote from: Oldjim I have asked the question as the present software version appears to support it
So does that mean the size limitation will be lifted or stay the same with hinderance to the signatures?
